It is high on classical quotient, Asha's mesmerizing voice, and the biggest of them all is Pancham's music (always the best). The way he composed this song, just like his others is beyond words. I have always loved when Pancham had any solo sung by either Lata or Asha with Indian classical in the backdrop. Try listening to 'Jaane kya baat hey', 'Aur kya aehde wafa hotey hein' from the movie 'Sunny', and 'jeeney de ye duniya' from Lava to name a few. Also, this song clearly portrays the simplicity of Deepti Naval while enacting the same. Furthermore, I am a big fan of Lata/Asha's songs released during the 70s and 80s, and needless to say they dominate my MP3 player. These songs take me to a different level altogether, and touch deep within my soul.

Now you are talking

There are experts out there who can analyse Pancham/Lata/Asha/Kishore songs, note by note. For an amateur like me, I prefer Lata (or Kishore) - Pancham combination, a bit higher than Asha - Pancham. But that is just my preference. If I want to listen to Asha, I would listen to her songs with OPN sans Rafi.

For classical Asha Pancham, try "Piya Baawari" from "Khoobsurat". The part where he switches from classical to western - "Daali Daali Piya Phoolon Ki Chadar" raises goosepimples for me. And to see the other end of the spectrum for this combo - try "Hey Baba" from "Manzil Manzil" - Same artists but a totally different mood.

And I still cannot believe that one of the best song of 80s - "Roz Roz Aankhon Tale" has been wasted on a bimbo like Mandakini.

In 'Manzil Manzil' there's another gem - O Meri jaan. Amazing composition. Ever wonder how Pancham changes the music to his other fast song in between one of the antaras (zhalak dikhakar kar gayi deewana). And again, in the 'zhalak' song, how he managed to barge in the 'O mere sona re' mukhdas in music? That was Pancham - way ahead of his times.

Well, 'Roz roz aakhon' is another favorite that I couldn't get bored of, and that compel me to listen to each detail of this song. You are right, Pancham and Lata combination was way too melodious. Listen to 'Saagar Kinare' from 'Saagar' where the mood suddenly changes when Lata starts off.

Also, listen 'Tere liye palkon ki'.

Thanks 'm2611'. I think we must get this thread going, as we hardly have any music thread.
