The trend is fast catching up in Indian metropolitans as well. Don't worry for India will be a match for Western society as their economy progress to the next Superpower(?). An alarming fact, indeed.

Here's something on the increasing divorce rates in India:

How about comment from Amit on saving paper and water

Of course, water is the best natural cleaning agent and better than paper. But by using paper, one can always save water, which is or going to be a commodity in India and the rest of the world! Usually, what I do is I take the toilet paper, spray droplets of water on it and then wipe. Once my hole is wet enough, I take a single dry paper and wipe for last time. This way, I neither waste a lot of water nor paper. Wet paper would be a great idea here.

:D :D

I would go a step further and recommend lemon scented moist papers like the ones they give you when you order ribs or chicken wings.....

Divorce is a length and costly process in west, and that is any couple's last resort. Hence people avoid marriage and have live-in relationships. However, I think once a couple stays together for a number of years, they are automatically treated as "common law partners".

Also, staying in an unhappy unhealthy marriage is mentally and physically harmful to both the parties as well as the kids and sometimes divorce is the best solution.

It is a cultural shock, but again, you are judging a Canadian or American phenomenon from an Indian viewpoint. Not to mention, that Indian society is also changing and evolving.
