Is it only me or everyone feels this way. I have lived in many countries but i find toronto such a different place. Correct me if i m wrong. I find desis here trying to exploit every other desi. People ask for all different kind of favours. You hardly know someone and that person would ask for baby sitting their kid. Then those amway people they are after you anywhere you go. If you see some face smiling at you and being friendly has to be amway or some similar other company. Just feel so annoyed and feel like protecting my family from these exploitations. I have felt the difference in my own personality. When i was new here i used to smile back and waste my 10-15 minutes to figure out where is the communication going. I used to give my phone numbers as well but now I know these people. I have a problem here if we are going to become so aggressive in our mannerisms is that what we aspire to become?

I read an advice which meant a lot -- ' Learn to say NO ' .. You will be happier ...

And then there are those who visit your house borrowing things and returning them back not in the same condition ... Learn to say no ..or else you will feel more sorry later ... for your own self ..

I have to second what Fido is saying. You have to learn to say 'no'. I learnt this the hard way, when a friend of ours gave us 10 kilos(without exaggeration) of things to carry when we visited India and when it was their turn to visit India, left quietly without informing us (not that we wanted to send anything). There are others who've got in touch with us just to get jobs done for them ton our visit to India and then dont bother to even say a small hello later.

I believe, some people come into your life to amuse you - while others come into your life to just plain USE YOU...

I thought it was just me going thru this...but now I know...I am not alone....
i see desis in walmart (visited by most desis) smiling at you and initiating conversations and taking down your phn #, coming to your house and offering some sort of business opportunity...similar to amway...
I feel so used...n then there are others who dont bother to call you or come to your house unless they need something...

even though selfish people are everywhere, I feel their proportion is higher here....

dont know who are your true friends!!!!
