Dear FH, hats off, here seems a little hope at least. would it be ok if my friend tells the UK check point staff that he needs to go and visit his brother.
This time while coming from Caada, we were also given a 24 hrs entry cuz we had to go to hotel for overnight stay. Actually we had missed a connecting flight and the next flight was scheduled the very next day. It was an airline fault who got delayed at pearson and lot of passengers who had connected flights from Heathrow got disturbed.
Now in my friend case, I have no clue that how genuine would it sound asking the border security staff to allow a 24 hrs entry simply for visiting his brother ! Probably a lot depends upon their mood

HEY, It happened to you. So, you know it first hand. There can be NO better Proof of that than what you yourself can present, and do so as soon as you can. Your friend will have a chance to meet with his family that want to meet with him on the LAND SIDE.
He needs a Return Ticket (for/or an onward journey) A visa to visit Canada, which he has, and stop by at the Immigration Check Point and make a humble request that him/his family be let out for a few hours to meet with the Land side reunion. All I want you to do is write to your friend and tell him about your case first. Then send him the link that I provided to you and let him CONTACT the TRAVEL AGENT and get a CONFIRMATION. They can do it for him.
