come with as much winter clothes as possible. Cover yourself with layers of clothing. where are you coming from.
Protect your child with good winter jacket , gloves and cap.
wrong time to land in this sick country
Yes cover yourself and your family well. If you don't have good winter jackets (per canadian standards) you can use your existing once, but you have to buy good ones immediately upon your arrival.

"wrong time to land in this sick country"
if this is such a sick country, then you nor I should not be here.
If Canada is sick, then how bad is India?
Just to don't say "... this sick country" to a gora....

This has been discussed many times here.
Just search for clothes in charcha to get correct picture. The above responses are not entirely correct in my opinion so do a wider search
Let me know if you need more clarifications but make sure to mention where you are coming from.
Jhony,
Weve juyst recovered from about 10-20 cmss of snow over the weekend and yesterday. Something like -16 with windchill now

Its only going to get colder in Jan
Clothes: Dress in layers...undergarments, tees, cardigans and then jacket.
It snows a lot here(more than in TO) so once you get here maybe you'll prefer a jacket with hood. A woolen scarf really helps once the winds gets biting cold...-25 on.
Now for the important stuff for Montreal(especially if you do not have a car)....cover your extremities...thats where you loose heat rapidly
so.
1) Feet: good winter boots(look for ones with the 'thinsulate' legend). 'Kamik' is trusted for childrens winter boots and some of them can withstand upto -34.
2) Gloves: ofcourse nothing really helps in -34...but again look for thinsulated gloves and then shove your gloved hands into your jacket pockets
3) Last but not the least...thermal undies...can keep you really warm even if you are wearing only dress pants in -30...pick them up at wal-mart after you are here.
