CIC does not check your old country working history when you apply for Canadian citizenship. I guess they might have already checked it when they gave you the PR for immigration to Canada.
Once you become PR and land in Canada, when you apply for Canadian citizenship they only do a background check of your stay in Canada i.e. police record, financial credit or bankruptcy records, CRA transactions (taxes & benefits) etc.
They wouldn't go to your old country records and start looking again at that. And in any matter if you had provided correct and legimate record during your immigration to Canada, you should not worry about it ......

Dude, you're indeed paranoid. CIC granted you PR only after doing all the back ground checks. At the citizenship stage, all they look for is past 4 years of employment/education history.
Employment checks were done at PR stage because your immigration points were based on it. But at citizenship stage all they care about is medical, criminal and security checks. In fact, you can remain unemployed in Canada and still get your citizenship as long as you meet the residency requirements.
BTW how did your friend know that CIC checked his company?
So what is immigration check in background check? what does CIC do in immigration check for applying citizen?
My friend stroy is:
He spend long time waiting for background check when he applying citizen , he call CIC many times, the CIC agent always say they are doing a immigration check, he wait for over 1 year and he decide to look for a MP to help him to ask CIC, then MP ask CIC why they take so long time to do this, CIC told MP they are doing immigration check, they invesitgate my friend's eduction and working history before he became a PR according to his immigration file, this is also my first time to listen the news, so I'm wondering how long CIC will do a background check, and how do they do the check ,because for working history, all information is several years ago, even the company at that time maybe not exist !

present citizenship timeline is 16 months, so if your friend waited for 1 year it doesn't surprise me. The thing which surprise me is the MP calling the CIC for inquiry after 1 year which is considered as per present timeline a regular time period. Maybe the MP is not aware for the present timeline.
I became citizen in January of this year & it took me 15 months. So don't worry.

I think because CIC check his past eduction and working history before he became a PR, so it takes him so long time, maybe this is the reason for those people who are waiting for a long time to get citizen.
