Ship with Tamil migrants approaching Canada. There might be LTTE members on board per that article. The ship decided to steer away from Australia recognizing that country's strict laws. Two more ships may be heading this way as well.
Compassionate or have we become a dumping ground with the possibility of harboring terrorists?

It's not even funny anymore. So, the last I checked anyone could grab/rent a big ship, pay the captain a couple of thousand bux, and get into Canada. That too, within 3 months. Couldn't beat it and of-course the timeline. Next thing you know, Canada has a couple more hundred refugees and a potential citizens without even waiting in the PR queue. Australia thrashed them before entering their waters and our own Canada (like a cow) is welcoming them with open hands, hospital beds are being prepared for them and making sure they will be garland'ed by the higher authorities, while whispering in their ears, "Remember, vote for us. We have let you in'.
I have a suggestion for all of us who have filed for our parents and for themselves for immigration. Considering it takes about 5 years to get them here. Let's go dutch, contribute some money, rent a ship and board it to Canada. They will be here within 3 months, without passports, and without immigration queue. What else? Canadian govt. compassion will be with you all through, and make sure News will cover your journey 24x7. Celebrities in the making, eh?
This is gross misuse of Canada's lame and duck refugee policy. The wait time for potential immigrants from India to Canada stands at 7+years. Few people including cunning folks with terrorist and criminal mindset can hire a big boat and land in Canada. They get free government money and become burden to the system withhout paying any taxes. They will then be at liberty to continue their criminal activities and suicide bombings and we can do nothing about it.

I believe they get immediate health / medical coverage. No waiting period of 3 months (is it still 3 months?). If I remember it happened to the Kosovar Albanian refugees who came by plane loads during Serb war.
How many of u think that life of refugees be better here than PR/Citizen? You people looking at one side of the coin.

I honestly don't care a dime. The issue is not about life and livelihood of these refugees. It's merely about the means which you employ to immigrate to Canada that is being questioned here. On one hand, we have a potential immigrants who have to wait for an average of 5 years and then there are a shipload of illegal aliens who JUST SHOW UP on the shores and get to live in Canada. It's about the agony of us people whose parents/relatives are denied even a visitor visa despite of completing all the formalities. It's just about this. Who cares about how these refugees live here afterwords?
I liked former high commissioner Martin Collacott (to Sri Lanka) suggestion to open offshore processing centres. Australia did it and now it has stopped the would-be refugees. He further stated,"Canada should come to an agreement with a Central American country like Gautemala to open a processing centre. No one wants to claim refugee status in Gautemala.".
The fact is Canadian refugee laws are lax and it's benefits generous. Furthermore, Canada's acceptance rate is three times the international average. Go figure!
