QUESTION WAS - WHY HADN'T HE TAKEN CHARGE IN THE FIRST PLACE ??

In China, the leadership at the highest level took ownership (and pride), to present a powerful picture to the world. Here MMS (and Sonia) is taking charge to "damage control".

See the difference ? :cuss:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has moved in to take control of the Commonwealth Games. He held a high-level meeting on Thursday to take stock of the fire-fighting measures.

The PM also sent out a strong message -- leaving Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi out of the meeting and refusing to give time to Games Chief Mike Fennel. Instead he directed him to the cabinet secretary.

With the final countdown to the Games now on, Singh has moved to take control. He held a meeting with Sports Minister M S Gill, Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and the Delhi government brass to discuss immediate damage control.

Suresh Kalmadi should have been sacked earlier in the year when things were not moving as per schedule. Too little too late and our PM is trying to salvage the Congress party image...:cuss:

I agree with you. However, few points that leads us CDs to react in this way

- I have realised that no matter what your background is, people are same everywhere, the same strengths and weaknesses. So if we can come to Canada, blend into the Canadian society and work hard here, why can't we, the same people provide the same output in India? I have failed to find that answer.

- A country like Canada has been able to host two winter and one summer olympic. Why can't India? What is so different about two countries?

- In a day and age where India touts itself to be the next super power, why does it do such a miserable job of organising an almost world class event? We can organise two cricket worldcups, a hockey world cup, an Asiad and two IPLs, so why not CWG?

- As generations change, so does the mindset. I hope that the next generation of bureaucrats and politicians have an attitude to change the things rather than becoming a part of the system. That's why as much as I hate the idea of monarchy, I hope that Rahul Gandhi is able to change the things should be become the next PM.

Time for whining, pointing fingers gone. One thing you need to understand when you are throwing the crap at India, being an Indian it is falling on your face. Enough crap is already getting thrown by outsiders..lekin ghar ka member hone ke nate we need to support and cheer for that one einamdar who is sincerely trying his best to shine India's image.

I agree with you but please note that u can still contribute for the benefits of ur home country while living abroad. Today, money is very important and if u r financially strong then u can help by sending money back home. This is how thousands of NRIs did in the past and still doing. The contributions of NRIs cannot be overlooked. The situation in India cannot be changed in days. It will take yrs and it is a forecast that India's image will be marvelous by 2030.

Do not expect that things should be same in India as in other developed countries. Let the kid grow first and then start expecting.

See Being in Canada, I am in that category as well... The response was to the line "100 me 99 beiman...." etc etc.
Not only outside countries but there are tonnes of folks within India itself would like this event to be a big big failure....
Everyone knows for sure that this is a mess, done by Kalmadi , Dixit and team. Being an Indian, all I am saying is we need to get over it and if we cannot support it at least stop throwing Sh**. Whole world is watching the Tamasha and reporters got their story for next few months. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is going give his/her expert opinion about this being bad idea. If you cannot help at least do not hurt..
