India 'to be given place at UN top table'
India will be given a place on the UN Security Council in a move seen as a step towards a permanent seat and recognition as its status as a growing world power

According to Indian diplomatic sources, New Delhi will use its place at the high table of the world's leading powers to push for UN reform to reflect the rise of growing powers like itself, Brazil and South Africa.
India will take up its place on the 15 member council as a regional representative of Asia following a vote at the United Nations General Assembly. It will join its ally South Africa, Colombia and two countries out of Germany, Canada and Portugal.
Should Germany win the election, three members of the Group of Four alliance pushing for an expanded Security Council – Germany, Brazil, India and Japan – will form an influential pro-reform caucus. Brazil is currently serving the second of its two year term as a regional representative.
In any case, all four of the 'BRIC' countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China, the world's fastest growing economies – will sit together on the Council for the first time, strengthening the hand of the world's growing powers.
Pranab Mukherjee, India's finance minister and second most powerful figure in Indfia after the prime minister, last week intensified New Delhi's campaign for a permanent seat at the Security Council and a shake-up of the global power structure which emerged following the second world war.
During a visit to Washington last week, he said:"I do hope that as and when the expanded Security Council along with the general reforms of the United Nations take place, India's claim for being a permanent member of the Security Council will be considered and accepted."
India's former foreign secretary and High Commissioner to London Lalit Man Singh said his country will now use its influence, along with its allies, to intensify the pressure for reform.
"The Security Council needs reform. Permanent membership went to the victors of the Second World War but so much has changed since then. It should reflect the reality of 2010 not the reality of 1945.
"India joining the Security Council takes us a step closer to permanent membership, things are looking hopeful," he said.

Obama has dangled a carrot to MMS in form of permanent mebership at U.N. Security council and Noble Prize for peace , provided MMS hands over Kashmir to Pakistan. I would not be surprized if MMS just does that. That guy would do anything to get Noble Prize. In fact he tried to call all party meeting on the subject but BJP frustrated his dream. Nothing to be happy about this
nahi dost kashmir hum kisi ko nahi denge
With 187 votes in its bag, India has received the highest number of votes for getting into the United Nations Security Council in the past five years, according to Indian diplomat.
Canada, which was also contending, received the least number of votes and eventually withdrew after the second round of voting

It is very interesting why Canada lost the race.
After reading this posting you please decide whether you are happy that Canada lost its bid.
It has come to the open that the reason was USA.
USA voted for Canada but did not plug for Canada with other nations.
Obama is more interested in supporting Islamic nation causes in order to win over their sympathy than helping Canada which has a close relation and support for Israel.
Hence the US's ambassador in UN stayed away from the Canadian support as it did not want to be perceived to be supporting an Israeli supporter.
One of my Pakistani Friend a Canadian citizen was very happy that Canada did not win the seat.
The reason he gave was that Canada gave Haiti about 80 million dollars for earthquake relief while it just gave 1 million for Pakistans flood relief. Eventhough Canada has a big population of Pakistanis it was let down by Canada.
Hence all the Islamic countries did not support Canada and hence Canada lost its bid.
But none of these guys have an answer when asked how come all the Islamic nations did not provide funds but Taliban was the sole provider for relief.
I do not understand this twisted logic, while I fully support Harpers worry that every dollar sent there will be abused by the military and not with the people who need aid.
It is also very interesting with the UAE issue about the relocation of the base and also how they denied the landing to the aircraft of the Canadian defence minister.
I fully support Harper for preserving the Air Canada's interests and if UAE will not allow Canadian landing the loss is theirs and NOT Canada's.
In the long run we will realize how a patriot Harper is and I love his Canada first logic.
What is the point in sitting in UN or fighting a war in Afghanistan when the monies could be used to fix the Steeles Avenue or reducing the deficit than pumping monies to support these dictators who abuse power.

In continuation to the topic of the Worst President of USA ever - Mr.Obama who is going to be routed in elections in November 2010 has planned to escape the route- prepone and fly to India.
In this November 2010, the Republicans are projected to win big and the win is going to be as big as the one they had in 1882.
What does Mr.Failure do he flies away into the arms of his puppet MMS and then he will go to Golden Temple on 7th November 2010 and offer prayers.
It is a gone fact that with Chinese pressure and the way US is playing MMS and Sonia Thayee will hand over Kashmir to Pakistan in a silver platter.
The start is the appointment of the 4 interlocutators for resolving the Kashmir issue.
Mr.Obama's health reform is stuck in court while his key aides are flying away like flies.
Very shortly Barack and Michelle will find the White house to be very lonely and hence they need to move into an apartment, which they will do anyway in 2012 when Sarah Palin will be the next President.
