Well if the person has a \"hopeless\" accent then it cant be helped. I meant an accent of a person who was educated in India in the ICSE borad :) I forgot that there are other ISKOOL boards in India also *pardon* :D

I had infact given example of my wife - who happens to have been educated in so called 'convent' schools of India, with a governess at home during childhood, and who passed out as Gold Medalist at University for her Masters and who was not only one of the 75 students selected out of 6000 applicants, but also got a comment from the interviewers that they were surprised and saddened by the fact that she out of all the people had to go for a mandatory English test of York University, just because she happened to be a foreign graduate!!!
Chandresh

1.) Borad = board....fast typing = typos....= not intentional

2.) the above paragraph is contradictory.
"comment from interviewers" = interviewers recognize her talents aka her accent was impeccable
"test due to being a foreign graduate" = bad policy of Canadian Institutions....

So just because Canadian institutions are wrong, doesnt mean that there is anything wrong with her accent. I am pretty sure her pronounciation of "grass" will be understood quite clearly by students anywhere in Canada ! That , you can be assured, speaks of her "convent" education... But I wonder..what is a "convent" education ? I didnt know that ICSE was a convent education....afterall usme rashtriya bhasha ka uccharan...aham kim karomi...and vokka manchi taragati chaduvu (telugu) bhi sikhaya jaata hai...... Now what was that saying ...bandar/adrakh...or khatte/angoor :D

3.) No assumptions about anything... We had this discussion in another thread (I guess it was discussed by a member on this forum..worship) about "iskool". The point being this... ICSE has a strong (and I mean very strong) emphasis on Grammar and pronounciation. The vast array of books covered gives the student an edge over other schools, at least in this aspect.
So
"Is ICSE a factory, all students will have ICSE mark!!!"
when ppl in Canada confuse ur accent with a British accent, then ummm maybe you can say thats the ICSE mark.... Of 'cos no harm for students from other "iskool" boards :D... This is Canada....Everything is possible here :)

However, there are exceptions to this which I have mentioned clearly in my previous post. However, a hopeless vocabulary coupled with a wierd and strong accent will result problems specified by DIO...

Do in Rome as the Romans do ,

When I was young (not that Im old now ) at school I had trouble in understanding Engish movies .........(still watch them with sub titiles on sometimes though) but oft late I have found that easier when communicating with mixed nationalities and have self observed that when I talk to a Brit or a Yankee these days my tongue involuntarily twists much in the 'gr+ass' way .

I received a comment from a Senior in Doha once ............. u dont pronounce like most Keralites ........... ur pronounciation is different ....... I wonder if I shd attribute it to my ICSE schooling but there s no denying the fact that most of the soft skills plus the English skills are developed while grooming and though tacit they definitely place you as an advantage . Those lacking in them should try and improve rather than criticize ....... its all tacit but it is very much there .

ICSE does not even come close to the standards of CBSE and in some cases the state board..

In India.. if you score 90% in ICSE its considered as 85% when compared to a CBSE student.. There are tons of schools which are operated under ICSE board but standard of education and teachers is not at all good..

A new trend in India has started.. and they r all trying to dump ICSE and adopt CBSE..

Point of discussion was not which board is superior. We are in Canada and our kids have to attend Canadian Board (not a bad idea to get ICSE or CBSE board to Canada)
I would like to prove following wrong:
ICSE = 100% student accent perfect
CBSE= 100% student performance > ICSE student
Iskool Board = accepted inferior quality

Dfwrp quite the opposite.... You may say that they are dumping the ISC syllabus...which is for grade 11 and 12....That I will agree is inadequate . But teh ICSE board stays intact. Regarding your grading... I am not aware of any such standards vis-a-vis 90:85 .... Take for example BITS Pilani...a 97%ISC = 97%CBSE = 97% State board ..no exceptions...U know its quite difficult to get 97% in the state boards...(except maybe one state *no marks for guessing which state that is* :D) ...

Jago desi..again you are wrong...you are again generalizing....It all depends on individuals and how the wish to adapt themselves. It also depends on what kind of encouragement they get from within their homes.

The thread has been initiated for Soft Skills. Please do not take away the credit from the initiator.....

We need to focus on the topic or leave the thread. I have seen many such discussions on CD.com which usually stray from the topic of discussion and end up with junk (as in ...out of context) topics being discussed.

Every region has its own specifics.... be it of clothing / dialects / food habits / lifestyle / education / etc.

Soft skills are very region specific adaptability factor.
for eg.... In Patna one is not expected to say "Tumhara Naam Kya Hai"
It has to be " Aapka Kaa Naam Hai"
In Delhi it is OK to say "Oye Jaraa Baat Sun" where as in Lucknow it has to be "Bhaiyaa Jaraa Suniye to"
