Hi folks,

Can you advise how to get jewellery valued in India? I live in the UAE and need to get this done in India before i leave for Canada, so that i can include this in the list of items to follow.

By the way, is it mandatory to get the jwellery valued? or can i just mention that there are XX number of gold chains weighing YY? etc..

Thanks again for the responses!

I think you should at least photograph your jewellery and submit them at customs in Canada (in the list of goods to follow)
It will just make your life easier.

Contact a government approved valuer ( any well known jeweller can guide you ). It is quite a simple procedure and if the person is known to you he might come to your residence.

Else you would not be able to quote the correct prices on the goods to follow list. And do photograph all the jewellery.

my problem is that i am living inDubai, while the jwellery is in a locker in India... and i am planning to come to Canada within 2 weeks... its pretty difficult to go down to india just to get the jwellery values within this period..

what is a possible solution? i have pictures of my wife wearing some of the jwellery - can i use this photograph with a list / weight / value of the jwellery? does it state anywhere that i should get this valued by an approved valuer?

sorry for nagging you guys on this, but i really cant figure how to get around this small issue ..

Faisal,

This link is only for the purpose who is already living in Canada, and coming back again in Canada from home town or what so ever.

For the first time, you can bring as much as you want, and it is not mandatory to prepare a list and valuation report etc... But this is always advisable to preare a list of all the items even of hosue holding and all, which you bringing with you and which are expected to come with in some time throguh any Cargo service.

Becoz with the submission of this list, if your some items are coming even after some time, that will not be charged for custom.

In India you can get evaluate you jwellery from any "Govt Approved" jweller (Which you will get easily) with in 2-3 hrs. so it's not a big problem

Oshoexports,
Thanks for pointing that out. For the same reason I had mentioned "This might not be exactly what you are looking for, but you can browse through the website for further info" in my original post.;)
