obviously that is an exaggeration. Half the salary would get you nowhere in California .. or you are a bachelor willing to live in some crappy basement apartment.
Well I have only just started applying for jobs .. lets see where that takes me.
1> There are no basements in California, due to earthquake zone
2> Half of what i make will be more than enough because u have no idea what i make..

If u move to bay area , getting a car is not that important as public transit is good..
U will probably save money on car and insurance..
In the US u can put money in 401k and reduce ur tax burden.. but dont know how it will impact ur canadian returns because u have to pay difference.
100K usa and 100K canada will not be a big difference in savings..
Mostly its the weather i would move to cali..
That said if u really want to save u should move to San diego where rent is lower, but so are the salaries

I know a 2000 sq ft house would be roughly 500K here and I think in that area it would be a million dollars. Also I assume property tax is higher there and the tax is more than in Canada, its rougly 38% (28 Fed+10 State) for higher income people
Apart from that .. anything else to consider?
The main question is
Q) How much more money should one make in California to have a similar lifestyle to living in Mississauga/Brampton? e.g. say if you make CDN $100K, what should you make in California?
Hey guys, I will be PMing some of the contributors on this thread with my telephone number.
I have an opportunity in San Francisco and need some advise from someone first hand who has lived and worked in California.
It will be a great help if I can talk live with some of the contributors on this thread.
