Disadvantages of Peaksaver

1. Your AC unit is controlled by someone but you which means it is cycled off during peak hours i.e when it is most required .
2. Peaksaver Thermostat is wired through the main board . Main board is not meant to distribute ANY power to external source . This often overload the system and results in shorter life spam of board (Regular Tstat's run on batteries )
3. If Tstat malfunction , you cannot call your preferred contractor to replace it .

Hope that helps a little

Hi Ashwani :

Thanks for your professional input. Appreciate it, and pl do not mind my questions, i am just trying to weigh if the disadvantages we will face are not big enough then we can help in saving some energy.

1. Your AC unit is controlled by someone but you which means it is cycled off during peak hours i.e when it is most required .

I have heard in 15 min you do not notice any difference.

2. Peaksaver Thermostat is wired through the main board . Main board is not meant to distribute ANY power to external source . This often overload the system and results in shorter life spam of board (Regular Tstat's run on batteries )

You mean, when life is over, we need to buy another theromostat which will not be free then. What is life of thermostat usually, and if shortened, approx what will it be ?

3. If Tstat malfunction , you cannot call your preferred contractor to replace it .

So Powerstream will send someone, and we need to pay for it ?

Vaughn is just north of Toronto, right?
Programs like PeakSaver and the Direct Energy smart energy control etc. won't make a squat of difference.
the way the electricity rates in Ontario have increased because of TOU pricing, you have only two choices : either forget about running the A/C during summer and swelter in the heat or say "screw you" to the hydro bill and run the A/C as you need and pay whatever the bill is.

turning A/C on/off every 15 mins makes no sense.
you will still feel uncomfortable and will still pay a high bill.
it is the worst of both options.
instead try to cool your home by other means like ceiling fans, pedestal fans, awnings, and so on and completely forget that you have A/C.
you can also choose to run the A/C constantly overnight during off-peak rates and shut the windows tight during the day and draw the blinds to preserve the temperature.
there are many ways to avoid A/C.

I did not mean to save my energy bill...it says clearly, u will NOT see a difference in your bill.

I was talking of helping the envmt in general :).
