Hi, Can someone suggest the options to call India or Canada / US from Toronto ?
I did try using couple of phone cards.. but they don't give good rates to India and they also have hidden / junk fees (like connection fees, 3 min. rounding etc.)
Can someone suggest some option or a website where you can get reasonable phone cards ?
Thanks,
Aparna

I use Primus for calls to India. At 23c per minute plus Airmiles, it does not appear to be a bad deal. For the US and Canada I use Yak communications. Dial 10-15-945 + 1 + your number(for US and Canada). The cost is 5 cents per minute. Not bad.

I use G3Tel
http://www.g3telecom.com/
its 21 cents but hassel free. I can use my home phone or my cellphone to make calls. The connections are pretty good too.

I use G3 as well as Comwave --> http://www.comwave.net/
Comwave charges 19C a minute to India and is post paid service as opposed to G3 which is a pre-paid service.

Aparna,
I have used two long distance providers and found them to be good.
1. G3 Telecom – they give good rates for India (I think 20 cents) and the connection to India is fast and good. It is a prepaid service.
2. Goldline – website is www.goldline.net – it is a large company with 24 hrs customer service and markets a service called D-call service. The advantage is that unlike G3, one can provide upto 8 telephone numbers linked to one account and you do not have to dial a pin if you are calling from any of those numbers. It also not only gives you the balance in your account at the start, but as soon as you have dialed your number, it calculates the time available for that call (for that destination), so you know exactly how long can you continue on the same call without being cut off.
I however use a third service!!! Why?
- First, it gives a combination of both G3 (low rates) and Goldline (convenience).
- Secondly it is owned by my newly acquired friend (from the same school but 7 years junior to me) !!!!
If you want his contact details I can give that to you – but this is not to be considered as advertisement since my only benefit is growth of a friend’s business.
