This is a message to share with you all my personal experience with a couple of long distance service providing companies.
I had started off with Reliance when i came to Canada in 2005, the service was good, however the rates really high, customer Service from 1 to 10 , 10 being the best, i would rate reliance customer service as 5.
Then i started using comwave telecom, they initially had some technical problems, but i stuck to them becoz of their rate guarantee and improving voice quality, and i am still using comwave.
I also tried for a change two more companies, Union Telecom, which promised me a rate of 0.039c per min to India LL and CELL, however , PLEASE BEWARE WHEN SIGNING UP WITH THEM, THEY CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE NO OTHER FEES, BUT THEY CHARGE THE CREDIT CARD $50.00 AS SECURITY DEPOSIT, AND ALSO THERE IS A PER CALL CONNECTION FEE OF 0.39C,,,NOT ONLY THAT, THEY HAVE A 3min CALL ROUNDING.,..which is defitnitely not in the interest of the customer, since evcen if you speak for 4 mins, you pay for 6 mins,,and if you speak for 10 mins , you pay for 12mins....this added together with a FAKE PROMISE of sending a MONTHLY BILL,,,,led me to cancel their service...Getting back the $50.00 Security Deposit was an uphill task...
AFter a lot of convincing from a Sales agent from a new company, i signed up with GLOBE TEL, OR GLOBE TELECOM...THEY ALSO MARKET THEIR COMPANY AS GO GO TEL , ...THIS IS A FAKE COMPANY...THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY WEBSITE, THEY PROMISE TO SEND A MONTHLY INVOICE, BUT DONT..ITS BEEN 3 MONTHS THAT I HAVE THEIR SERVICE...BUT THEY DONT SEND ME THE INVOICE,,,I HAVE CALLED AS MUCH AS 20 TIMES IN ONE SINGLE DAY,,AND FOR SO MANY DAYS,,BUT THEY HAVE EXTREMELY PATHETIC CUSTOMER SERVICE, ,HEY HAVE ONLY 5 REPRESENTATIVES
AMAN,,AKASH,,SAMEER,,,DEEPAK,,SCHON...OUT OF THIS DEEPAK AND SCHON ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO UNDERSTAND ENGLISH,,,REST ALL ARE USELESS,,AND THEY DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND OR SPEAK ENGLISH WELL...
THEY ASK FOR THE CREDIT CARD,,,AND PROMISE THAT YOU WILL PAY BY CHEQUE,,AND THEY CREDIT CARD IS USED ONLY FOR A CREDIT CHECK....BUT AT THE END OF THE MONTH,,YOU WILL SEE A CHARGE ON YOUR CREDIT CARD STATEMENT....WHATS WORSE IS THAT THEY CLAIM THAT THE NAME OF THE COMPANY IS GLOBE TEL,,,BUT YOU WILL SEE A CHARGE BY GEO-TEL ...THEY PROMISED ME 400 FREE MINUTES TO INDIA...AND A RATE OF 0.049C PER MIN....THEY CHARGED ME $77.00 ON MY CREDIT CARD...AND HAVENT SENT ANY INVOICE ON REPEATED REQUESTS...NOT ONYL THAT,,,WHEN I WAS UPSET AND CALLED THEM,,THEY TOLD ME,,THEY DONT NEED CUSTOMER LIKE ME WHO DOESNT LIKE TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD....
IF YOU ASK THEM FOR THEIR ADDRESS,,THEY WONT GIVE YOU SINCE THEY ARE OPERATING A FAKE COMPANY,,,,THEY PROVIDE YOU WITH AN ADDRESS OF BRAMPTON, ON AND ANOTHER ONE FROM TORONTO ON...BUT BOTH ARE FAKE,,SINCE I HAVE BEEN TO THOSE ADDRESSES,,AND THEY ARE HOME ADDRESSES OF PEOPLE..AND NOT A COMPANY...
From my past experience i can tell that Geo-Tel ran out of business since they cheated people....they promised good rates,,but never charged accordingly...they never sent invoices...and finally ended up losing all its customers,,,then they came up with a new name Globe Tel,,,PLEASE BE WARE,,WHEN SIGNING UP WITH GLOBE TEL.... they are FAKE ,,and BOGUS...THEY CHEAT...
I must say,,i have been with Comwave,,and luckily,,they are a growing company,,,with good VOIP Home phone service and Long distance...
My friend used Startec,,and he said that it is a nice quality and good rates,,however,they charge an Additional \"Carrier Cost Recovery Fee\"..of 11.9% of your invoice,,,imagine if you monthly invoice was $100.00,,you would not pay only $100.00 plus taxes,,you would pay $110.90 plus taxes...
SO Be careful when you sign up with a company for Long distance....
Rogers has a 10 cent per minute plan - Asia For You. Monthly charges are $1 only. If you make, say, 300 mins per month to India, still u r paying some $1.3 more than Reliance. No calling cards and end of month billing.. + if u r bundling ur services, u get upto 15% off (not much, still reduces the gap to < $1 per month.
I am using Yahoo, to call long distance calls since last many years. Recently started using 12Voip and once you take the credit you can call US/Canada for free ! True ....you need a PC and Internet connection ...

I have been using a company for the last 6 months and their rate+quality+customer service is the best I've come across.

Has anybody used ACN?
I have a few friends who use ACN for local and calls to UK and w/in North America(no India)
They claim it is unlimited calls to 19 countries in the world plus local calling plus several features all for $32.99 plus tax. Some even have a video phone where they can talk to anyone else on the same service for free. The video phone is cool. You can see the person you are talking to. Also some have internet service from this company. the downloading is superfast, better than my Rogers. Actually it seems to be very cost-effectgive for business people, that is why I am considering it.
Anybody who has used this service on Canadiandesi?Would appreciate extra feedback.
