My Success Story - Albeit Of A Different Kind By: I2Landed I have now decided to share my whole experience with Canadian Immigration, from the initial unsuccessful attempt till the reapplication and landing in Toronto almost 10 years in a blog. Accordingly I have started writing in a blog, the first posting being about my initial application until the denial by Canadian Consulate General, Hong Kong due to misinterpretation of a simple sentence in a supporting document by the visa officer. In second one, I have written more about my life in general, especially about the 7 year struggle starting with the second application until the grant of visa by New Delhi Consulate and my landing thereafter. I had encountered almost every conceivable problems with the application process along the way, and I hope the way I dealt with them will provide some guidance to those who need it in future. article.php?id=678 |

And to the Desis who seem to think that the snowfall in winter in Toronto or Calgary are unbearable, I would like to ask - how does -40 degree celcius in SUMMER sound? That is the temperature in Siachen, and I've been through it! [unquote]
Sir,
I am not sure if it is really – 40 deg. cent in the himalaya’s (and that too in the summer) unless it was in the top of mount Everest.
One of the coldest places in the world is the centre of antartica and even there it is only – 70 deg. cent.
Seniors, Please clarify.
Peace
The Siachen Glacier lies immediately south of the great watershed that separates China from the Indian subcontinent in the extensively glaciated portion of the Karakoram that is sometimes called the "Third Pole." The glacier lies between the Saltoro Ridge immediately to the west and the main Karakoram range to the east. The Saltoro Ridge originates in the north from the Sia Kangri peak on the China border in the Karakoram range. The crest of the Saltoro Ridge's altitudes range from 5,450 to 7,720 m (17,880 to 25,330 feet). The major passes on this ridge are, from north to south, Sia La at 5,589 m (18,336 ft), Bilafond La at 5,450 m (17,880 ft), and Gyong La at 5,689 m (18,665 ft) The average winter snowfall is 10.5 m (35 ft) and temperatures can dip to −50 °C (−58 °F). Including all tributary glaciers, the Siachen Glacier system covers about 700 km2 (270 sq mi). (Source - Wikipedia).
TK - Can you imagine walking through 35 feet of snow? Well, our Jawan's are actually doing it throughout the year. It certainly is not as enjoyable as the film stars make out in Yash Chopra movies.

No yarr!
what I meant that in Siachin glacier, the temp. must be only around -10 or -15 deg cent (with wind chill) and not like - 40 deg. cent.
Siachin must be in between India and China and not like the middle of Antartica which is in the middle of no where.
Peace

Yes. I did.
Anyways, I do not want to deviate from the essence of your original post.
I will read it when I am free and most my comments on that.
Good luck !

Emboldened by the popularity of my first two blog-posts, I have now published my third post in the same series – covering my landing and subsequent short stay at Toronto – at www.raju-thomas.com. As always, your comments, especially with constructive criticism, are welcome.
Nicely elaborated experience.
One suggestion - you may like to summarise the 'take-aways' out of the experiences at the end of blog in few bullets. At times readers may not have the time to go through your complete blog but still would like to know the learning.
