My Success Story - Albeit Of A Different Kind By: I2Landed I have now decided to share my whole experience with Canadian Immigration, from the initial unsuccessful attempt till the reapplication and landing in Toronto almost 10 years in a blog. Accordingly I have started writing in a blog, the first posting being about my initial application until the denial by Canadian Consulate General, Hong Kong due to misinterpretation of a simple sentence in a supporting document by the visa officer. In second one, I have written more about my life in general, especially about the 7 year struggle starting with the second application until the grant of visa by New Delhi Consulate and my landing thereafter. I had encountered almost every conceivable problems with the application process along the way, and I hope the way I dealt with them will provide some guidance to those who need it in future. article.php?id=678 |
From my experience October is not the best time to come here.. because most companies are done with their hiring and their budgets open up in Jan Feb.
If anything u should be here in between End of Jan to Jun because most employers do their hiring during that time.

Dear Desis,
I am honoured and humbled by your overwhelming support and encouraging responses. Let me answer you collectively here, rather than individually addressing each post.
To begin with, let me clarify that I returned to India in February 2010, after landing in Toronto in December 2009. This was primarily due to two reasons. Firstly, I had just about managed to bring my life back on track, after some personal misfortunes had thrown my life into total disarray - both financially and emotionally - when the visa was approved. Secondly, my medical treatment in India was continuing and was at a stage where moving to Canada, waiting for the medicare support to begin, and finding a Nephrologist for continued treatment etc would not have been advisable. Hence I had decided to stay back for a couple of years and take care of things as best I could in the interim and then move permanently to Canada in 2012. Thus, I plan to relocate to Vancouver permanently in October this year.
My military pension is payable life long for me, and even after my death, to my wife. So my recurring financial committments in India towards EMI for a house I purchased will be partially taken care of, even if the job/occupation I take up in Canada does not bring in as much money as I would need.
And to the Desis who seem to think that the snowfall in winter in Toronto or Calgary are unbearable, I would like to ask - how does -40 degree celcius in SUMMER sound? That is the temperature in Siachen, and I've been through it!
I will, God willing, write about my Canadian experience once I have moved there permenantly. And for that matter, about my experiences as a military officer in India too, some day, among other things perhaps.
Thank you all, once again.
I looked at your site today and my first reaction was "Holy crap! Who's gonna read all that??"
Different story when i started reading. You write very well and have a way of adding intrigue to the mundane. It was great reading your experiences and learning that there's good people who go out of their way to help others. Also kudos to your attitude, especially toward managing the negative experiences while staying focused on the positive.
I wish you good luck for the future! You should pen a book once you're reasonably settled down, like Dimple suggested.

Are you there?
Hi,
I also read your webpage yesterday.
I was surprised to note that you faced exactly the same experiences as I faced when I landed in Canada in 2002.
Upon reflection, I felt that 95% of Desi immigrants who have faced the same / similar experience and hence there was nothing surprising.
However I must complement your desire to documents the happeneing.
It will be an eye opener to all Desi immigrants about the life that they will find in Canada and hopefully it will deter professional immigrants (other than people who are in IT, Finance, Accounting, Refugees , H&C cases, people with too many girl children, people who want to get OSAP and then move elsehere without paying it back, people who want to apply for Credit card, drain it and file for bankruptcy cases, uneducated people, people who want to get in as brokers/sell life insurance etc) from ever immigrating to the cursed land.
There are better opportunities in your homeland and more dignity too.
Peace

A big 'thank you' to all those who put down your remarks here, especially since they are all the 'seniors' - widely respected in this community for their selfless contribution both in terms of time and effort to help others.
@dude.., I am not sure I should be looking for a job after reaching Vancouver because of my age and physical condition. A part time volunteer job, and some small business, perhaps? I am leaving it open at the moment.
@Dimple/BL.. Yes, I have considered writing a book and even taking up writing as a career after a while. Ever since I was diagnosed with kidney disease, whenever I settle down on my terrace with a drink in my hand with my wife at my side, I tell her that writing a book is what I would do with a laptop propped against my chest and head raised with a couple of pillows, when I am eventually put on Dialysis and would have around 4 hours each day for three days a week, when I can do nothing else lying on the bed. And I can assure you, it's not out of self-pity or sadness at the thought of being sick, but only because I actually see it as an opportunity literally forced upon me to finally catch up with my biggest passion by fate, after all these years of procrastination that I say this.
Writing a blog with personal details, that too not very flattering ones, has not been an easy decision to take. Like BL stated above, my first thought was 'who would be interested in reading c**p like this!". But my children, who are always my best admirers and worst critics, read the first piece and encouraged me to publish it, saying that if at least one person drew inspiration from it, it was worth it. So here it is!
I intend to publish a few more posts, centered around Canada, my most favorite country in the world. I shall remain indebted to you Desis if you continued offering your comments and suggestions and help me improve the quality and contents of my posts.
Sure Sir.
I look forward on your thoughts of India. I am currently in India and find that it is a wonderful land with the rich and poor walking hand in hand on the road side.
All the best to you in Vancouver. You will need all the luck you can. Please remember that after the recession of 2008, even volunteer jobs are hard to come by (esp. in Vancouver) as Canadians are saving money to the extent that they donot want to pay for the A/C or Heating costs of the sq. ft. space that you may occupy in Vancouver.
Peace

I heard this quote once . .. " You think you can, and you are half way through "
I highly appreciate your will and determination.
Side Note: Whether we would be happy or sad in a foreign land is entirely our fate as well as individual perspective. My wife, for example, loves being in india and I am looking fwd to move to Canada in next few years as I am unhappy here. But then, I am not sure what would be my situation when I move there .. only future would unfold that.
Best wishes to all those who have just moved to canada and to the rest who are in the process.
Hi,
Just read your post "Have Canadians Won Any Prize For Being The Friendliest People On Earth Yet" at your blog. Are Canadians really that freindly towards us Indians? Hard to believe, seeing how foreigners behave towards Indians in other parts of the world! What opinion do Desis who have first hand experience about this have? I am curious to know as a future immigrant.
