After watching couple of episodes of Bandhan Saat Janamon Ka, Sasural Simar Ka, Jeevan Saathi Humsafar Zindagi Ka ... my nine year old daughter asked me why people in India are mean and why they make girls cry. Even though I down played saying that they are just TV serials and not real .... but can't stop thinking over it and realized what impressions such programs leave on young minds about culture in India.

correct, This kind of serials are making more sad instead of happy. Most of us we are already trashed out a lot in office or work place and end of the day when we reach at home we need some rest or needs some good fun instead of this all nuisance serials in TV, that's why we stop to watch this kind of serials with kids.

most watching channel is one and only one channel at home "SAB" TV

No more rona... dhona.....:) :)

Most of these soaps are so ridiculous. What I am still puzzled is that slapping people is common in the soaps. MIL slapping DIL takes the cake. Looks like our people (read who understand hindi well) want those type of dramas where saas / bahu war goes on. This is what people want? One can understand the mindset of these. No wonder there is still bride burning goes on in our coutnry apart from hefty dowry.

It depends on the TRP ratings. When more people watch it will continue. They drag it for so long. Each scene they have to show everyone's face wiht a loud background. I just stick to Chandragupta Maurya during the weekends. Used to watch Shobha Somnath Ki, but it started getting stupid, so ditched it. Even that is moved to weekends. Used to be at the prime time at night.

People connect with negative emotions and keeps them hooked. Some people are so much into it and they will be asking the characters to say XYZ and do XYZ in front of their TV as if the actors can hear them! That is what serial producers want also. I guess making people laugh would be harder than producing serials where characters are full of negative emotions. Indian TV news is all about corruption, killings, scandals, TV serials are all about rona dhona.

I am hearing those names of serials first time, because long time back we decided in our family not to watch Indian serials at all, We were in India that time. Even watching the Indian detective serials can bring your IQ down.

I would say parents are at fault to watch such crap in front of children who not being in India can only take an impression out of it. and then you spend time to explain. There is so less time to watch even comedy on TV or to watch hollywood movies and some of us find time to watch saas bahu serials !! . I am jealous !

I AGREE completely. Parents are at fault to watch such crap .... Hence stopped watching any more ... and joined them watching cartoons which is more relaxing.
