Good advise by Sameer789singh.
WES is a real pain.
For TN visa, you need to add one or two years more study after your B.com so that at least they say that you are equivalent to a Canadian / US graduate. If not they say that your study is not equal to US graduate .... and you will be

Thanks Gurram,

Since you seem to know about how it works, which category of TN? Would it be under Management Consultant? Would it be under system Analyst? I understand Management Consultant doesnt require a Bachelors degree.

WES is a pain but if it gets your degree to reflect a full bachelors then isnt it worth it?

I spoke with another evaluation agency and they said they will evaluate it as an associate degree. Will that still work?

And again coming back to my original question do you or anyone else have any first hand experience of getting a Bcom from Mumbai evaluated?

Thanks!

I am a B.Com from India as well, and got my credentials evaluated from WES. They evaluated me as a full BBA equivalent to Canadian study. I provided them with the photocopies of my degrees. My Post Graduate Diploma in Business Admin was evaluated as a Continuing studies (Bummer!).

However, not sure if this equivalency works well for applying TN.

Indian Universities are still at a far placed behind (ancient) when requesting for a sealed transcript. I get an anxiety attack everytime I think about requesting a sealed transcript from Delhi University if in case I need to enrolll myself in a higher studies here in Canada. <sigh>.

Thanks Febpreet!

WES asked me to send attested copy of my degree from the source. They wont accept a notary. So thats the painful part. How did you get your copies attested?

Is the evaluation different than for TN?

I don't remember providing them with the 'attested' copies. I can't recall right now, as it's been 8 years since I got it done, but I believe I sent them the originals.

For TN, I don't know. Though unrelated (for students), you may try this link to see if it could help you further:

http://www.wes.org/students/indiapolicy.asp

May be, visiting their office and inquiring first hand may help you as well.

Please keep us updated as to how your TN process would proceed, as I am (and others) are in the same boat vis-a-vis 3 years degree from India.

Good luck!

WES accepts only a copy attested by Controller of Examination kept in a sealed official envelope. You will either need to visit India and/or get relatives or friends involved in the process.

I am not sure if ICAS will give you equivalency of a 4 year US degree but you can ask. They require originals and not sealed transcripts or attestations. Currently they are taking longer than 6 weeks to process.

They may have changed it now. I never provided them with the sealed transcripts or attested copies of any kind. But, it took about 4-5 months for me to receive the evaluations.

One more thing. To this day, I never used these evaluations - NOONE asked. One thing I learned that these only help if you're looking for a further education or belong to a licensed professional, e.g. Civil Engg or Architecture. Or, may be TN.

Just another money grab in the garb of immigration services.
