Is there a validity period for a cheque from CRA (tax refund)?
It is probably written on the cheque. In most cases it is 6 months, but I have seen one with 3 months validity.

When is a cheque considered stale-dated, and is it no longer valid after that point?
Under CPA Rule A4, Section 22, a cheque is considered stale-dated after six months, unless it has been certified. Although it may be returned through the clearing for that reason, there is no obligation to do so, and the payor’s financial institution may still accept it as a valid payment item. Q. Can I cash a Government of Canada cheque that is dated more than six months ago?
A. Receiver General cheques are never stale dated, meaning you can cash them no matter how old they are. The financial institution (bank, credit union, trust company, caisse populaire) in Canada has the right, however, to validate the cheque by faxing a copy to the Cheque Redemption and Control Directorate in Matane, Quebec.

If you present the cheque in India, they will not accept it after 6 months from the date mentioned on the cheque. This is my experience.

As far as I know, Government cheques do not expire.
Not sure if CRA is part of the government.

Federal agency does not mean government.
I believe CRA is an agency who works for the government to collect tax from the people on their behalf.
