I recently had a very good experience in dealing with Indian Consulate Vancouver
Can you believe, Indian Passport can be renewed with in 5-6 business days ?
It happen with me
Last week I send my passport application with Original Passport by Canada Post 'express post'.
On Canada Post web site, it was showing 'Out for Delivery' on Thurs-friday
I called Canada Post & they told me to wait 2-3 business days more to get updated information. They told me since its government office & large volume of mails, it might take some time.
Finally I again called Canada Post on tuesday this week & requested them to start investigate & locate my Express Post envelope
I also casually called Indian Consulate on tuesday to see if they got my papers for pasport renewal. They told me YES. They told me it will take another week or two to process
To my surprised on Thursday I got my return envelope with New renewed passport along with Old passport
Believe me, I checked minimum 4-5 times to see if everything is correct or something is wrong
Please note original passport was issued in India so I was expecting atleast 3-4 weeks for Passport renewal plus travelling time from my city to vancouver & back
Also canada post is still investigating & that process is still ON
Anyway, HATS OFF to Indian Consulate, Vancouver for such an effecient work
Wow!
Agreed, I renewed my Indian passport from the Toronto consulate last year and I got it back within a week.
It's true that I had provided Express Post return, which is next day delivery but even then it was pretty impressive.

Hi Pratickm,
While sending the passports to Indian embassy, did you send the original PR card?
Thanks.
Indian high commissions seem to be very expeditious in issuing new passports and visitor visas. Things seem to be much smoother over mail than in person. Both my Indian passport "renewal" in 2001 and visa in 2008 were uneventful and were completed within a week, excluding mailing time.

While sending documents, make notorised copies of PR card & send them

I called twice to Indian Consulate. They told me to send notorised copy of PR & not Original
Accordingly my passport in renewed without original PR
Never got request for PR Original
