Hello,

A friend of mine who (is originally from India) lives in US called up asking for some help.

He has an older aunt living in Ottawa by herself, she needs some assistance from some one to drive her up to the Grocery shop and Doctor office once in a while.
I don't have any personal contacts in Ottawa...

Any ideas, how she could be helped ?

I thought of suggesting Taxi as they could be called with a touch of a cellphone.. but I haven't done that.

Any system exist to help such person ? It has to be reliable as the seniors are often vulnerable to security risk too.

Thanks.

This will not look like much of an help. But will try my best. I do not need any answers back, because you will have to be the one to do the analysis and then call the right parties to seek appropriate service from them. (WHO?)

How old is the person that is seeking this kind of help in Ottawa,?

What kind of service she needs. For instance, there is an O-train with bus link for those who can walk and travel by themselves.

Then there is a service (such as wheel trans in Toronto, run by TTC) That is a feature for those who need assistance in wheel chairs. They might also provide the same service even if they are not in their wheel chair, please call and find the same.

There are a lot of different organization that provide help for seniors in different locations. This is the nearest GROUP where the person who is in need of the service is looking for help. Not knowing the person's location, you have to be the one who has to find the group and their location and contact and find out what kind of service they provide and determine its suitability. Then arrange the same and then fix the date etc.,

There ares particular dates and with timings they bus the whole group to different places for groceries, x-mas shopping etc., and it is all FREE, depending upon their age and needs and where they live. It is like a group activity. Also they arrange picnic and outings too but at a cost.
