Could someone tell me what exactly am I required to do so that my parents can get a visitor visa to Canada asap? A travel agent in India has asked me to send a sponsorship letter attested by a notary. Is that necessary? What should be the text of the sponsorship letter? What other documents are required? How long does the process take? My parents are 80 and 75. Will age be a problem for them? Any information will be appreciated. Thanks

Notary is not required, as per my experience. Those agents are always asking funny things. But why take a chance? Just go to library and get it notorized.
Thanks.

Thanks Garvo. Incidentallt I didn't quite understand the purpose of the visit to the library and its connection to notarizing.
Thanks again.

Notarized copies of passport or the PR is a requirement as per the Canadian Consulate to support the visa. I guess what they're trying to make sure is that the peson sponsoring the visa is actually living in Canada!
A couple of months back I had to have my PR card notarized. And, silly me went to a lawyer - if I remember it right he charged between $25-$30. After this incident, I saw a Notary's office near close to where I work. Out of curiosity I asked him how much would he charge to notarise a PR. He said it would be $5
Lesson learnt - Go to a notary next time round

Daks,
Notary is not a requirement. If you have other documents in order like Income tax accessment or T4, it is alright.
My dad visited Canada 3 years ago and I didn't sent anything notorized. But again why should you take a chance? It is better to notorized.
