Kindled by Hasni, who is arriving from the Gulf to make his fortune in Canada, I thought that I can share our experiences in Canada, which will make him realize the essence of Canada.

Let me start first :

1. Landed in - April 2002 (Single)

2. Profession - Bachelor of Architecture.

3. Money brought in - CAD 12,000 (A princely amount those days. If I had bought a flat in Chennai with that money, it is worth 1 Cr. now)

4. First job - After 2 months, being a security guard for Popes visit, earning $ 8 an hour for 12 days - contract job.

5. Jobs held - Labor- packing , lifting, etc.. for around 45 days in the first 7 months of stay.

6. First professional job got - Drafting job at $ 10 an hour cash.

7. Amount in hand when professional job got - CAD 3500

8. Cheated by - calling 1-900 nos, TTC (paying one fare for each ride)

9. First increment - After 3 months, my $ 10 cash got converted into $ 10 payroll. Got $ 8 an hour from that time.

10. Situation after 6.5 years on the same job - Salary $ 16 an hour, had a car (with family members help), no savings.

11. First major hit in life - Fighting with the employer and being fired in the middle of recession.

12. Consolidation in recession - EI + petrol allowance and course fee help by Second career

13. Second hit in life - Being cheated of second career money by a Desi SAP institute and the govt. of Canada asking for reimbursement.

14. Major lifts in life - None

15. Dislike about Canada - Lack of job oppertunities, Racism, Discrimination at work. Cheating by the Govt.

16. Salary while leaving Canada - $ 18 an hour

17. Saving when leaving Canada - $ 0 (Mar 2011). My company in India sponsered my tickets to India and 15 days free 5 * hotel accomodation in India.

18. Travel to India in 9 years of Canada - 1 (2005 Dec)

19. Personal conclusion - Useless country.

Peace by Murali

Now comes the second part of the story.
If your life is getting ruined by Canada, then why are people calling Canada as one of the advanced countries to live.? So that means that the majority of the population has something to hold on to.
So let me tell you (of what I know) about the benefits that Canada offers and how people expoilt it. I know many Cd's exploiting in certain areas, but they are too proud to tell it out.

1. More children - The more children you have , you get more free govt. money. This credit is till age 18 or age 16. Your HST refund is also more. So make your own assumptions.

2. Some people work for cash and they never report it to the govt. So you save tax also your HST credit is more.

3. Taking EI as often as you can - works for some people. Hard to explain.

4. Use free food banks / soup kitchens

5. Buying a house- Canada has had red hot property market in the last 10 -15 years. So people who bought houses are very wealthy. Some people subdivide and let out to single immigrants and make a good income.

6. When you enter university, you take OSAP loans. So the onus passes on from parents to children. You get very good education in Canada. When you need to pay, you run away to other countries as Canada offers very low job oppertunities.

7. Exploit, Exploit, Exploit. If you apartment offers free Hydro, then use your oven / cooking range to dry cloths instead of paying $ 1.50 for the dryer. Do the washing in the Tub.

8. Canada needs both husband and wife to work. If the wife can't work due to language limitation, offer to baby sit babies at home.

Trust this helps.

Ouch! Sounds hard - don't hit someone back if they found their way out when nothing was working out for them. There are hundreds of people crib about the Country day in and out as it didn't meet their expectations. Instead of changing their circumstances they glued up with their rhetoric.

This guy at least changed his circumstances when nothing was working out for him. That's what I appreciate in the people like him. By the way, I don't know him personally at all.

He just calls spade a spade. That's what he gets the most bashing for and highly unliked on the forum.

How did he change his circumstance? He fled the country and now sits miles away and bashes Canada yet holding Canadian citizenship

-- By finding the appropriate opportunities outside of Canada.

-- He left Canada - did not flee.

-- May be he is just telling the (bitter) truth? There are thousands of immigrants facing the same problems.

Just a question - you're free to not answer it. Were you born/brought up here? Try to respect the challenges faced by immigrants. I know it's their own choice, but nothwithstanding. Some wither the initial pains and with timing (another name for luck, as I see it) they succeed. There are others who find themselves disillusioned by this whole immigration, and couldn't find the work at par with what they did back home. They still have to pay the bills and save for the rainy day. Their fault? May be, may be not.

Why I asked the original question is because many a times, children born and brought up here and those came to the country in a rather early age are hardly aware of the originalities and realities of immigration. Trust me for I have met many in the last 8 years. The picture is quite rosy to them, while it's not for the first generation of immigrants.

Good for those who succeeded against all odds, but all praise be upon the ones that didn't and decided to move back to their original countries. Life is short anyway.
