Hi,
I have seen so many people leaving their well-paid jobs in the Gulf and coming to Canada and even applying from the gulf.Well, they come here to get $500-$700 jobs, when they can be 'minting money' in the gulf.
It maybe a different story fro people especially from India,Bangladesh,Pakistan,Srilanka,Afghanistan, etc,as their currency is weak compared to the dollar and also most who immigrate are mostly working class of people.
But unless you are coming here to get a whiff of the weather or like to spend at NOFrills and Loblaws or Future Shop or Bestbuy,or simply 'escape'from islamic laws(esp.for non-muslims),it is like 'burning more money than you can earn!'
Also Canada has a very mixed culture and origin mostly from Europe/Russian and the America's and the trend still persists!

Money is not the number 1 priority for everyone. A lot of people base their decisions on factors other than money. For example many parents with school age kids move from the Gulf countries to Canada to give their kids a better life. Money doesn't matter to them. They have already made enough.

The reason y ppl move from the Gulf / Middle East to Canada /Australia are - permanence , children education , better life style , religious freedom & weather .
Plus another hidden factor is the search for different pastures / avenues which is an inherent human trait . What lies ahead and 2 check out another option 2 satisfy curiosity is also a major reason . 'Ok I ve lived 5-10 years in the Gulf let me see whats there outside .....
But in the bargain , somrthing which they realise later is that they risk to lose their tax free dollars and comfortable life plus proximity to India both in distance and culture . Many places in the ME are quite liberal and u r free 2 lead a Western /Eastern lifestyle . Also tax free economies not only make u save more but also lessen the cost of living.
Some return back after getting their Passports. It might give them a sense of security and satisfaction having 'tasted the pudding ' both sides .
Manasvi.

Working in the middle East is like being a High Priced Call Girl. the money is good but you have to put up with all the bad things.
