I think its more like Rs. 1,500/month . Bus will be separate :(

Plus here its NOT distance based , whether you travel one station or 50 , its the same price. Plus bus is also included in it :). Plus its transeferrable, so anyone can use it legally, when you are NOT using it :). I know husband/wife working or going out at different times having only 1 TTC pass in the house and a few TTC tokens for the occasional travel, when the pass is not available. lot of desi students use a COMBO pass, if they have lectures on different times and days :)

Indians are not complaining bcoz they have NO choice. They have resigned to their fate and sufferings :(. Who do you complain to, when the people you are complaining to ARE the problem !
The " Chaltaa Hain " attitude is a speciality of India. Suffer in silence, bcoz NOT much is or will happen in this country :(

I think $ 140 per month for unlimited travel on BOTH TTC bus and train, with kids under 12 travelling for FREE is a great offer :)

My main motive to come to Canada is to make money. I came on an intra company transfer. I had about 9 years of experience in my field and my overall salary package in India was 10 lakhs per annum. (Monthly after tax take home around 60k inr)
Real estate had become really expensive and unaffordable for the middle class. If I have a paid off house, there is no need to go abroad.

I was surprised with the suggestions that I got when I came to this website for advice. But I have taken whatever that I am comfortable with.
I am not going to the food bank even if I get laid off. I will return to India

When you are in a good job, that is what you will say. Just get laid off and be without salary for a few months. your mindset will change.

I happened to advice on CD one person whose secret wife (they did not inform her parents of their marriage) was on a research job (work permit) at a Canadian university. Her husband (who has just B.Com) wanted to join her. They rejected his visa application a couple of times. He was so sad. He asked me for tips. He was cursing the Canadian immigration for not giving him a visa. He told me " why are they not giving me a visa for me to be able to visit my sick wife for a few months (she was diagonised with brain tumor in Canada. I am not going to stay here for ever".

After a year, he contacted me saying that he has got a visa and that his wife was better after a surgery. Now he told me that he had an open work permit and he wanted to get a job and then get a PR.

Just how Indian's mindset really is.

Visiting Food Banks when you're a needy and without a job is not a bad thing. It simply means that you can't die of hunger and could still focus on finding a job without getting demotivated. As a friend once said this to me, "Yahan Canada mein aap bhookh (hunger) se nahin, akelepan(longliness) se martey ho."

Besides no one (except CDs) would judge you if you do want to eat out this way. But, who cares?

You're assuming that once you're out of job, you will take the first flight to India and won't even try to find a job here first. Normally, people take this drastic and extreme step to go back only after exhausting all avenues. Food Banks then come in handy.

We had a storm in BC on August 29th (90km/hr winds) - the Hydro was all out for 2-3 days for most of the neighborhood, no power, with all stores closed (Timmies, MCD, Groceries, Gas Stations, etc.), even well to do people lined up at the Food Banks as they couldn't get food outside or their existing Food in the fridge went rotten. Food Bank was running quite low the following days. Read it up online, if you don't believe me.

Knowing about the options doesn't harm. You may never know when you need them, God forbid.

When I moved out of India to do my MBA here in Canada in 2011, my income in India was 7 lacs per annum. I moved out of india because I was not happy in India with my salary and life style. I could not see myself buying my own place or car and even if that was the case that would have been done with great difficulty. In canada even after taking a debt of 60,000 $ for MBA I could pay that off, buy a house, car etc. All this wouldnt have been possible in India within 3 years after my MBA graduation.

But people who dont come here with proper planning, who are not ready to invest here, and just want job from day 1 and reap all the benefits without giving back anything to Canada should not come here . Also people should understand the job market before coming here. People in IT/ Project Management/ Business Analysis have good opportunities here. People coming from niche areas for which there isnt much demand will have problems here. Another aspect is communication skills. Often immigrants come with poor communication skills. People should do a SWOT (Strength-Weakness- Opportunities- Threats) analysis before coming here.

People want to invest few thousands (2,000$-5,000$) on immigration+tickets and want a great job here. I dont think that works for everyone. Very few lucky people get that. For others one should be prepared to invest on education/certification/have plan B in place. I do part time mentoring at one of the new comer employment centre in GTA and I am disgusted at the attitude people are bringing in and yes this is specifically for people from India who are coming to Canada with the idea of looting Canada from day 1.

Can you justify your last statement. That sounds a bit too harsh
