I am sitting down to
1. Renew the OCI as my younger kid's passport expired, got a new one.
2. PIO to OCI conversion for elder.
Im seriously appalled by the process and requirement.
So you need to upload Applican'ts passport, parent's passport etc etc and then you give them copy too ????
Hmmm..., there is a saying in Tamil 'Kashikku ponalum Saneeswaran Vidadhu'. Fits well for our life.
I am seriously looking to wind up my life there.. This is enough.

The day this idiot announced merger of PIO and OCI, I knew we are in big trouble.
Indian bureaucrats always find a way a problem to every solution.
Since it is pointless to argue with the idiots, can someone with recent firsthand experience please let me know answers to the following questions
1. Has anyone encountered any issues while travelling to India on a PIO that is valid but does not have the lifelong stamp etc.?
2. Has anyone tried to convert the PIO recently at BLS online site? If yes did you have to mail the PIO or visit them in person?
3. Any tips to make the conversion process as painless as possible?
I did travel to India 4 times last year on a PIO w/o any issues.
Thanks in advance for your time.

My daughter travelled last month , no issue encountered . As we were travelling with her new canadian passport and her PIO was issued on old passport so I was expecting some questions or concern but luckily no question was asked .
Thanks for the info

I am happy to report that I succeeded in following this stupid process and getting atleast one childs PIO converted to OCI.
On first visit, they did not take one childs application as the Place of birth on the form (u fill it online and then take a print out) did not exactly match the passport, so be sure to have the passport handy when filling that online form.
It took a month since I submitted to when it was ready for pickup. When I went to pickup, I submitted my second childs application and now waiting a month to see what happens. This time I was prepared to fill their idiotic asks and some I did not as I argued with them. He grudingly took the form saying, don't tell me if it does not get done.
Even after I showed him an email that I had received from CGI Torontos OCI dept indicating that only things that need to be submitted are
1. Print out of Online filled form
2. Photo
3. Photocopy of current passport
4. Photocopy of existing valid PIO card.
He starts asking, do you have a print out of successfully uploading photo, thumb impression of child and documents (passport and pio card), parents Indian passport photo copy.
This really irritated, despite showing him the email and a print out from CGIToronto's site on the PIO to OCI conversion, which also asks to just submit these.
He finally grudingly took it saying you will have to track the application yourself and provide if anything is missing.
So all I can advise is to take a print of this web page
http://cgitoronto.ca/content/pio-0
Take screenshots of each and every screen as you fill the online application and take a print out of that. You can take a photocopy of the Indian passport of parents (if doing for child), but really don't need to.
The big mistake they do is asking for all the things that is needed when one is applying for OCI without realizing that burden of proving indian origin is already done when we got the PIO card.
So stick to that argument and be prepared. Also, the fees should not be more than $9 change and reject the stupid $50 courier charge to send the PIO card. Just go and pick it up. And for pickup remember to get an authorization letter signed by other parent, just in case they ask. They did not ask me, but I heard others being asked.

Hi , I am going to submit OCI form . My daughter in 3 years old . How can I attach thumb impression ? It seems that I have to take her thumb impression on one page , take photo of it and then attache it with online application ?
Please guide me
Till date I repent having caught in this OCI / PIO wind.. Should have stayed with visa..
