The OP says "Compared to 5 years ago..."
So..."relatively" would mean....

Where we ever found the crime is decreasing? Look at any city, even at homecities like Delhi, NCR...I don't find GTA as unsafe place except some of the places near to Finch...and very few more. Overall Brampton and Mississauga are good areas to live.
At least much better than some of the major cities of Australia.

I think compared to 5 years ago likely every growing city is more unsafe than before.
Any city that grows in population gets worse in terms of safety over time.
The past always appears better than it actually was....it's human nature.
We remember selectively.
5 years ago, everything was cheaper, safer, nicer, healthier, sunnier, tastier and so on.
I bet 5 years ago, people used to say the same thing.

5 hurt in school stabbing
Four students and a teacher were injured during a stabbing incident at St. Joseph Secondary School in Mississauga, June 17, 2009. Bernard Weil/David Cooper video.
Two teens have been charged with attempted murder after four students and a teacher were injured during a stabbing incident at a Mississauga high school this morning.
Peel EMS say at least two male students with severe stab wounds were taken to Credit Valley Hospital.
The attack occurred on school property at St. Joseph Secondary School on 5555 Creditview Rd., near Britannia Rd. W., around 8:30 a.m., said Peel police Sgt. Zahir Shah.
The fight began as an argument between two brothers and a number of other students outside the cafeteria kitchen in the school. The fight quickly escalated with punches being thrown and a knife taken out. At least four students were injured, with two being taken to hospital in serious condition.
A female teacher was slashed on the hand trying to intervene in the fight, though police say her injuries are minor.
Other teachers quickly descended on the fight and subdued the students.
Officers arrested two youths, 16 and 17, within half an hour. One of the suspects was found and arrested on Willow Way, a nearby street.
Police say they have recovered evidence from other streets in at least two neighbourhoods west of the school.
The school was in lockdown for two hours as detectives interviewed witnesses.
There are reports the incident may have been linked to a fight that happened at the school on Monday.
After the lockdown was lifted, students were taken from the school, marched along a sidewalk on Creditview Rd. to a nearby Harvest Family Church.
Hundreds of students milled about on the church property until they were told mid-morning they could go home.
Many students had arrived at the school early today for exams, which began at 8 a.m.
Anxious parents stood beyond the police perimeter, looking for their children in the crowd. Others furiously worked their cellphones until they were certain their children were safe.
Shah said parents of the victims have been notified.
\"This is very rare for us, for this level of violence in a school,\" Bruce Campbell, general manager of communications and media relations for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, told Star.
\"It's not a regular occurrence by any means. St. Joseph is a safe school and it's a very atypical incident.\"
Campbell noted that no extra precautions would be put in place at St. Joseph or any other school in the area.
\"We're not going to do anything different; we believe our schools are extremely safe,\" he said.
With a population of nearly 2,000, only about half of the students were present at St. Joseph for scheduled exams.
Campbell said that today's exams will be rescheduled for Monday, and that a parent information centre has been set up at the Harvest Family Church.
