Thanks OTTAWANerd,
My daughter are in class xi, and xii, I am not sure of in which std will they be admitted, although surfing the net it does state that they are accepted in the same continuing standard as they are here.
What do you feel about the migration combination?
They accompanying me shall increase my outgoings from day one, at the same time chances of any one finding a job also increases
Any other Do's and dont's please inform
Thanks in advance.

Hi Peacock,

Here are some answers to your various questions and some DO's. The Dont's would be in the next post after knowing more about your expected date of arrival.

Generally the kids get admitted in the same std. as they were in India but it depends on their date of birth. The cut off date for deciding which class to admit in Dec 31. What this means is If your daughter was born any time between Jan1 to Dec 31 1988 she would be admitted in grade 11 for the school year starting on Sept 2004 but if she was born on Jan 1, 1989 or after, she would be in grade 10 for this year session. So, now you can calculate yourselves which standard they would be going to be admitted in to. Depending on the date of birth, it might be possible that your daugher who would be in grade 10 in India, might have to go to either grade 10 or grade 11.

Secondly, they would have to take an additional course for English language here or would have to clear TOEFL etc., as they would be going to University before studying 4 years in a Canadian school and hence this requirements.

Thirdly, please bring all their up to date 'immunization records' otherwise they may have to take some ' booster shots' here for Tetanus, DPT and POLIO etc.

If you are going to stay in Toronto and would like to spend 'bare minimum' till such time you or other family members get some type of job, you should look for a basement apartment through this site and it might be in the range of $750 to $850 and other expenses like grocery for 5 people and transportation etc. could take your monthly expenses to $1500 to $1600.

Your teenage daughters can try and would likely get jobs (temps) as cashier etc. in food stores or deparmental stores. They could also get 'telemarketing' job etc. However, only after reaching here you could decide what type of jobs are available for them and what they can conveniently do part time while studying.

You should start 'networking' on this forum by letting people know about your work field and your experience so that CD members in the same field could guide/advise you about openings etc. Moreover, you should start searching about jobs on various job searching sites and put your resume there. You can do a search in charcha and would be able to find about various job sites and various posts would guide you about job searching tips and the importance of a good resume and networking.

This site is a wealth of information and various CD members have contributed their experiences, DOs and DONTs & other important tips which would be beneficial for you.

Good luck

Thankyou Pramod Chopra,
Your reply has answered my question to a great deal, what still puzzles me is the decision making on whether to come alone or with family.
Both positive and -ve thoughts are running across the mind not letting me to arrive at a conclusion.
My date of arrival has not been finalised as I am yet to receive my call for stamping of PP for visas, but I expect it to be soon.

Ottave_nr

you have mentioned in your reply regarding the expenses for school going kids, but I have heard about that the school education is free in Canada. Secoundly the kids bellow 16 years are also entitled for some benefits in the shape of cash CAD$ from the Province govt. Please clarify the things

Mr. Mor,

I like your catch word......."Have faith ..you can move mountains"

Since you are going to Canada with a family of 5 ......beware....

Have enough money in hand...Any job confirmation or offers????

It shouldn't happen that in Canada...they make "you move mountains"

Just a bare fact to let u know.........

I came with family and did not have any regreat. I still support my decision. Some time family hinders mobality but also a great source of strength. It keeps one going.

Average cost for living in Toronto would not be less than some where $2000-2100 PM. 2 bedroom apt/basement $850-900, Grocery $500.00. Phone/cable/mobile/TTC pases etc $500.00 Misc $200.00. it does not include any car exp.
