Dear buddies,
Can someone inform to me how do most landed immigrants pass their time before eventually getting a job or some work in Canada? How does one spend days, weeks and months doing nothing?
Activities like Reading,Surfing the Net, Outdoor activiites, Touring, etc besides the routine applying, applying and applying!
Many of us will be staying with their relatives, friends and their families, etc?
What are the most exciting routines one undergoes with no work or specific activity to do in a foreign country?
(initial settling pangs!)
Please inform true life experiences of 30+ individuals, with each day passing like tearing one page each day from the book of your life!

Well time goes by really fast in Canada.. Even with nothing to do.. you will not notice when day started and when it ended.

When you don't have job, you can't think anything else! Especially when you have to spend $500 each month per person of your family, how can you afford to have any outing?
However libraries here are very good and I have seen people spending their time in Library. One of the reason is Internet access from the library.
If you are staying with somebody as a paying guest (or non-paying guest) and if those guys are good enough you might enjoy seeing places free of charge, if they might take you anywhere they go!
Otherwise be ready to spend $4 per day for local transport!

I spent 45 days without a job - first 30 days alone before my family joined me. Believe me, I don't remember how I passed the days - but there never was a dull moment, always busy!! Settling down, getting to know your surroundings, getting children admitted to school and getting the SINs, back accounts, credit cards, etc takes up all the time.
