I always see this type of positions published on websites and news papers and most of the requirements are "GENERAL LABOUR'.
I know there will be lots of discussion on my subject but it is fact and it is true.
Believe me lots of people come here and upgrade and spend money in universities and colleges and after they upgrade they ask is CANADIAN EXP..
so finally canadian exp. is what? General labour....?
Hve you guys migrated to do these kind of menial jobs? and get pay which hardly meet your family demands?
I do agree that some are doing good but in general it is only 20% of immigrants get good jobs.
sorry this is not to discourage anybody but what i m trying to convey is all the immigrants should be prepared for the worst and do menial jobs or else they will not have enough money to sustain in this expensive country.
To new immigrants and those who are planning to come here ...
Canada is not a path of bed of roses it has thorns also in it, you have to remove thorns from your path by sheer determination, courage and planning or else you will be in great FRUSTRATION....

Do or Die.....
I would suggest, from outside Canada concentrate and analyse the negativity of Canada. Once inside Canada, you have no other option but learn from positive examples.

I don't know where you got your '20%' number from. We've had a lot of discussion in the past about numbers like this, but I'd ask you to check the polls conducted on this website itself.
In particular, if you look at the poll that asks people for their job type, you will see that less than 15% of 920 respondents said that they work in the 'general labor' category...
Basis of an outcome from poll of 920 people to represent more than million immigrants is justified? Also you are not aware which category of people form these 920 people, how many are double votes etc.
I know there is no end to this discussion. I close my view at this point.

Its certainly not a bed of roses. But, who expects it to be ?
Yes, For people who dont bear shame(this term is relative) and can work on anything to earn their bread and butter, this country is wonderful. Working in general labour is not shameful here. They can live with the same pride as the elite in India.
On other hand, it is also a land of opportunites. With the right skills and the right attitude, you can achieve just about anything.
The key here is to :
a) Be aware of what we are getting ourselves into. (Research, Analyze and come to a logical conclusion)
b) Take the decision
c) Live by the decision
And like my school teacher used to say : "Always have a fall back option !!!". Something you can turn to if things dont turn out the way you intended.
Some find luxuries in India.
Some find them in Canada.
Some find them both in India and in Canada.
Some never find them.
Its a problem when you start expecting the same luxuries that you get in India. ( Eg. Here, I dont have a kaam wali bai to do my dishes, do my laundery and cook my food )
Canada for sure is a land of opportunity. But certain luxuries that we take for granted in India are not so easy to get here. On other hand, lots of other luxuries that are hard to get in India are easily achievable here.
Once we learn how to balance our expectations, we can be happy anywhere. Be it in India or be it in Canada.
Like I heard someone from this forum say :
Settling down here must be seen as a 3 step ladder :
a) Survive (Het thru the initial hurdles)
b) Stabilize (Get stability..learn to balance ur income/expenses)
c) Grow (Sky is the limit)

I have a novel idea to conduct a true poll on this matter. Let us advertise that immigrants with less than 2 years in Canada should report to a few centres spread in GTA along with their pay slip, and each of them will be given 15% of his bi-weekly (since that is the norm here) wages. Since people having higher positions will tend to get a higher reward, there will be an incentive for them to come and register, and since 15% of a general labour's wages will not be much, but still it will be well needed money, the desperation to get money will be balanced with lack of motivation for a small amount, and therefore they will not come in droves.
Unemployed should be given $10 plus bus fare - since they are used to travelling in buses in search of work and registering at scores of places, they will not mind in registering and getting paid for it!
Oh how I wish such a poll (or something like this to get the actual feel of the employment situation) could be conducted

a Novel idea indeed.

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
