I was wondering how much more expensive would it be to rent a eonomy/compact rental car at the last minute v/s booking say a month or even a few weeks in advance.
By waiting till the last minute we can check and see how good the weather will be on what days etc. How do you think the weather will be in last week of April ? will it be comfy enough to drive and visit places etc for someone who has no experience driving in snow ?
By booking at the last minute whats the max I am looking at in renting a basic car after taxes.
Thanks

In my experience, unlike hotels and flight, there is not that much difference in last minute rental car books and booking well in advance.
Whereas in hotels and flights, you can sometimes get great last minute deals, cars have a very narrow range for deals.
But you never know - you might get lucky !

I didn't find any great difference between the rates by Travelocity and Hotwire/Priceline though.

There won't be any snow in the last week of April - I hope :)
At least not in Toronto !

Difficult to predict.
Which airport?
I would say $23 and under before taxes is a good deal.

By april the driving conditions get much better , one rarely gets snow which stays on road for days.

Try enterprise rent a car , they offer $9.99/day weekend plan. you have to rent from friday to monday. With insurance it comes about $100 , but taking insurance is worht it if your US insurance does not give coverage here.

Also , try the yellow pages for lesser known rantal agencies, they usually give very attractive weekly packages. The downside is that the cars maybe more than 5-6 yrs old or more.
