We are looking for an Indian Visa for my US born daughter. I was checking up on the Toronto Indian Embassy (or is it Consulate?) website and found that they offer two different types:
1. Long term Visa - valid upto 5 years. Can go anytime within 5 years and stay for a max period of 6months (180days). Longer than 6m, you need to register as a foreigner. Cost: $200
2. PIO Card: Available to persons with Indian parents. Valid for upto 15 years and can be renewed for 10 more years at no additional charge. Does not need Visa to enter India and can stay in India for upto 6m at a time (longer stay requires registration with Police). Cost: $240 for children under 18 years.
On the face it appears the PIO card would be better, but wanted to check with the other members their experiences reg. which is the preferred option?
We do not plan on visiting India anytime in the near future but just want to have the visa ready incase we need to depart for a family emergency at short notice. We are visiting Toronto in March and want to do this then.
On the face of it, PIO card appears to be better option though I do not know the technical aspects involved*.
I think other experienced members will be able to better answer your query in this regard.
(*Your post was pushed out of "newest posts" else I would not have replied.)
