Greetings,
A couple of questions for those who have recently renewed their Indian passports in Canada -
1. Do they return the original passport?
I ask because my passport has valid visas on them and I don't want to lose them.
I am assuming that the visas stay valid even if the passport expires - is that true?
2. Are there any issues with returning original documents?
I'm just nervous about sending originals of my PR card and other documents.

Why does the Indian consulate require originals of everything?
I am also filling out a PIO card application for my kids and I see that they require their original passport and original long-form birth certificate.
Why can't they accept notarized copies?
Do they believe that Indians in Canada are forging photocopies?

They do return the original passport with stamp in it. My wife got her back after the renewal in Ottawa.
Why PIO card? U can go for the OCI, with abt $40 more. This is lifetime visa. I am surprised abt the documents. Here in HC office, they returned all the original papers intact.

I recently renew my child passport in Toronto.
So Indian Consulate just stamp some where in middle pages about new expiry date( say after 5 years).
But on main front page expiry date is still old.
Is that the standard practice while renewal
I am asking this as anybody who first see passport will say its already expired unless check soem middle pages & confirm new expiry date
Any feedback

Yes it makes no sense to just stamp in middel of pages & say passport renew for another few years.
One thing was we request Indian consulate to renew passport as urgent case, but still we were having 5-6 business days. On thing to note is original passport was also issue at toronto office only
