Dear friends,

I have applied for immigration and I am from Middle East. I am married but no kids. Presently I am having a home take of 40K (CAD)pa. here . I would like to know if I get a job with similar package, what kind of life can I have in Ontario. Presently I am staying in 1BHK and I am not expecting very big to get immediately on landing either. Just wanted to know if things work out and I getthe same over there what type of life style I can have there. Your opinions and advice is highly appreciated

Regards
HM

After deducting taxes from the 25-30k, you will be able to live a very basic life in Toronto, Ontario.
Remember that the service sector, insurance and gas prices are much more expensive compared to the middle east.
Just calculate your monthly expenses as as rough guide:
Rent 1 Bedroom: 800 - 1000 CAD
Auto Insurance: 200-300 CAD
Gas (Fuel) : 150-200 CAD
Unavoidable utilities ( Telephone, Cell Phone, Internet, Cable, etc) : 120-200 CAD
Monthly Groceries: 250- 400 CAD

I you are getting 30K and your spouse can chip in 10K that can give you a reasonable life. If you are unmarried, sharing accomodation will be a good option to save couple of bucks for you.

I would like to elaborate a bit on that.

Assuming that take home salary comes to around $2000 a month, for a couple living in an apartment with wife not working, savings would be minimal to none. Even if your wife works for $8/hour, she can bring take home of around $1000 a month and that would have a significant impact on your overall financial situation here. If you keep your household expenditure under $2000, you can save that $1000 a month that your spouse earns.
