Hello;
I have landed in Quebec city 5 months ago with my wife and 4 other kids. I have not been able to find a job yet, therefore, I am going to apply for the employment assistance. When I first came in I have deposited a cheque of $30,000 in my account and this money is for my brother he wanted me to invest them in a Canadian bank. Since 5 months ago the money is still the same and I have not touched them.
I need now to apply for the employment assistance (welfare ), what should I say about the 30,000 dollars, how can I convince the authorities that it is my brother’s and not mine. Should I just withdraw the money and send it back to my brother and close the account, or what I should do??
Thank you for your help

They will ask for bank account activity and not only the balance. Single transaction of $30000, how are you going to explain? Welfare depends on lot of other factor not alone bank balance but for sure $30000 will disqualify you for welfare . I believe in total your family saving should not be more than $5000. Check with your community office too.
