Without Canadian Experience I was offered 4 jobs while I was in Canada.......summarized as :

1st job - Final Interview by American (Black)
2nd job - Employer was Italian........(I spoke better English than him)
3rd job - G.M. was East European.......a landed immigrant 6 years back
4th job - Project manager was ex Middle east.......

Three more interviews conducted by BIG firms in Canada by ORIGINAL Canadians ended in NO result.............

What does this imply????????????

Just like there is a chicken and egg situation in 'lack of Canadian experience', there is a difficult situation that I am facing these days.

In the last two months I have been considered for more jobs by the recruiters than I was in last 3 years - however, now their question is: you have been here for three years - how come you have not worked in your field or you have not worked at the level your qualification and experience deserve?

How do I reply to that now?

(And by the way, now I have stopped writing on my resume that I had worked for Krispy kreme and Money Mart, and a company for two months doing bank reconciliations - Earlier they used to tell me to write all this, because working even as a labour or counter clerk added to my 'Canadian Experience' on my resume, but now someone has hinted that employers get put off it you tell them you have worked at those level in your initial years in Canada, and now, ARMED WITH 3 YEARS CANADIAN EXPERIENCE, I am on the look out for middle or senior jobs!)

That you were looking for a job on a native reserve? That there are big firms on these reserves? OR that you dont speak any of the aboriginal languages?

Jake,

You got it all wrong Jake.....

I wanted to say that only the so called "Original canadians" complain about lack of canadian experience of new immigrants........

whereas Immigrated people (Naturalized citizens) understand that outsiders coming to this country are equally competent.......they could do most of the jobs even without Canadian experience...........

If an IT pro coming from Bangalore or even Bhagalpur.........can do high end jobs in Silicon Valley without so called American experience..........then why not in Canada ?????????

Canada isnt in any means high tech than USA..........Canada has to learn to become Land of the Free.............nothing will be achieved just by proclaiming........Its a land of immigrants...........

For example.....a family friend of mine has completed MD and he is not yet allotted a professional membership of the Medical Institute, as it is totally controlled by LOCAL Canadian Mafia of Doctors.................they will not even allow "Outsiders" to be qualified in their profession and practice in your choice of region...............

Are you aware of this??????????All this is happening when there is shortage of Doctors.........

Hi deepcb,
I dont think Jake is trying to answer your real question here. He tried to take the lighter side of the question, and I am sure he knows what "Original Canadians" means.
You can read more about the "Original Canadians" here:
http://www.canadianheritage.org/books/canada2.htm
My instructor in a culture orientation class described the native (original) canadians (in an informal way) as people who dont like to live in cities, wear clothes, etc. but like to sing and dance, drink a lot, etc.
You used the word "Original Canadians" in a different sense; Jake and myself both understand that.

I don't think it implies anything, except that things didnt work out. It is all a numbers game... eventually you will hit the target, keep at it.

there are many reasons behind the justification "canadian experience". as some have of my desi friends have said in this forum, it is sometimes a justification since they want someone familiar with canadian culture or methods etc, etc but there is another reason, which hasn't been mentioned yet.

the gov't REQUIRES that a certain procedure be respected for certain jobs, including advertising it, conducting interviews, and the whole procedure, if need be, can be studied by the authorities if there are suspicions of "favoritism, racism" and so on.

but the fact is, a lot of people, as is natural, just want to hire their friends. as a result, they tailor-make a job description that draws an exact profile of their friend and then advertise it, do interviews blah blah but the result is already determined.

the poor guys going thru the interviews don't suspect that the decision was made before the job was ever posted. then they walk out scratching their heads wondering why they didn't get it.

i know this is not the case for all jobs, but i personally know some cases where the above scenario was carried out blow by blow. you'd be surprised: this 'theater' is even carried out gov't jobs and jobs for big corporations.

don't let it get you down or become bitter. believe me, everyone is in the same boat.

I was just refering to your use of the term ''Original Canadians''. According to me...these are the aboriginal people.
As far as I know none of those have complained about "lack of canadian experience of new immigrants". Many of them live in worse conditions than desis and have no time to complain about our ''lack of canadian experience''

:D
