Dear friends,
I am a recent graduate from University of Freiburg, Germany and got an offer for a postdoc position at UT downtown campus. I am not sure if I should take this offer or not and asking u guys for some genuine advice...
The salary that I have been offered is 35000 $ and I guess its not very high.. at the same time I realize that I am just switching from a student life to a professional one and I can manage with this much, and ofcourse I m still single so its managable. Another point can be that I am changing country so I cannot expect the same level of salary as I have in Germany (ard 40000 euros) but I don't see a great future here and thats why looking for a change..
I just want some insight about the job scene in Canada. I would be interested in moving to industry after completing my two years tenure at UT. Any comments about general life in Canada...I am basically a chemist and is a passout of BHU.
Thanks for your time
Best wishes
sandy
Satya..its an excellent offer that you have got. Take it and I hope that you succeed in your endeavours. When do you plan on getting ur immigration ? A stint at U of T can lead you to many bigger things, esp in the USA... As a chemist..you will have ample scope for Biotech firms...Thats the hottest field out there, right now.
BTW..where were u in Germany ? Germany does have some advantages vis-a-vis money. But when it comes to residency..It is nothing, when compared to Canada.

Hi Satya,
Will u be based in Germany till August 2005 ? If so then it should not be any problem if you fly from Frankfurt (which in my opinion is a better place to fly from than Delhi airport). Check it out from the embassy in Berlin. It would also be better if you get in touch with some Canadiandesi;s on this forum for helping you with ur initial setup. I think it should not be a problem as you have a valid job offer.
Be sure to file for your immigration as soon as you land here ...
If you want to visit India before coming to Canada, you can take the Air Canada flight from Delhi to Tonroto direct. ...If not, you have many options...Take Air Canada from Fraknfurt to Toronto.

Hi Nerd,
Yes my job in Germany lasts till the end of July and my Toronto one starts from 1st of August. Definitely I want to visit India once before I take my new job. The exact date I will decide only after getting the work permit for which I will go Berlin next week.
There is a option that I go for holidays in the last month of my contract and then fly to Canada directly from Delhi. But this is just an option as I am aware of Immigration guys at Delhi Aiport
So lets first take the visa first then will decide about the date and place of journey.
I guess there is no need of any thing specific to bring from India/Germany.. except some original french wines for u guys...
sandeep
Yes of cos !!! French wine rockzzz. You are in for a shock when u find out the prices of wines in Canada. Also dont forget to visit Media Markt and get urself a wire for your laptop adaptor. Keep that in handy, just in case you have to visit Europe (or for that matter, even India).

Hi ,
After a long time I am back to CD with few more questions. My application for a temp. work permit is still at the Berlin embassy since 6 weeks and only god knows when I gonna get it!!!!
Assuming that my application will be accepted today or tomoroow, I want some info on PR application stuff. I read in several threads that the application procedure will last atleast two yrs or so and my present job contract is for two years only. Can i quickly apply for PR when I land in Toronto??? Is there any other specific requirements?? I am a full time worker at University Freiburg since MArch 2005 and I have a full time work experience between 2000-2001 as a research fellow at NCL Pune.
Plz let me know the requirements and the time frame.
Thanks
sandy
