Hello!
This happened to me today at the indian embassy.
I wanted to get a PIO card for my infant daughter who is traveling on the 24th of dec. to india with me. the website says 1 week is the time reqd..
I got a token at 9:15 am today. the office opens at 9:30 am. my number was 88. at 10:45 my turn came. the lady said that all PIO's for infants has to be routed through an officer. the officer said that he wants 2 left hand thumb impression of the child on the signature column (this is not mentioned in the website). he also said that the lamination machine for PIO card was broken and they did not kjnow when it will be fixed. he advised me to take a visa this time. so i took the visa number . my number was 288. (at that time 116 was in progress). my turn came at 1:20 pm. my application was taken. the visa for infants donot need thumb impression.
Thanks

Thanks for the information regarding fingerprints. The officer said one of fingerprints I carried of the baby was not clear but he took it anyway. You saved me an extra trip from Kitchener to Toronto for the PIO card.

There is one display unit that displays token number for services other than visa (one counter). It is only visible to one half of the waiting hall. It looks they are operating the consulate on a shoe-string budget.

Different topic.........There was note saying that authentication of indian driving license now takes 4 months since it sent to india to the authority who issued it.

I recently got a PIO card for my 11 month old daughter and it wasn't that bad. I had e-mailed them about my request and they replied promtly about wanting a thumb print. For those wanting to do this, print a few copies of the page that requires the thumb print and take multiple copies. If the thumb print is not clear, they do not accept it. I had taken seven copies with my daughter's thumb prints and the clerk took two pages that she felt were suitable.

Also, I believe as soon as you enter the consulate you can talk to a clerk who takes your name down in a book and then you are paged to the office. After the officer checks your application you have to wait in a long long queue to submit your application. It is a cumbersome process but I found the officer very helpful. Also, after you have received your PIO card, please enure that they have entered the right information.

My daughter's name was spelt incorrectly in the PIO card. Place of birth was spelt incorrectly too but apparently the clerk had scratched it with blade or something and corrected it (was quite visible). I sent an email and fax to them in mid January of this year. Consultate never replied to those. I then asked my wife to call them, and they asked to send the PIO card by registered mail and also send one prepaid envelope for returning the PIO card. Also they asked to send passport with it. So we spent about $18 extra for somebody's clerical mistake! They sent a new PIO card.
