Whats the fun of separating Gujaratis from the rest?? If we really believe in our culture, then the saying goes" Vasudeva Kutubakam" in Sanskrit; meaning "The whole world is my family" and probably,thats why we survive and thrive in this other half of the globe. BTW, nothing against anyone, I am also a Gujarati, but its time we change things on a broader perspective. Whats the objective of starting this thread, anyhow? What do we want to achieve by searching for and separating Gujaratis? Are the rest different? Or are we here to make our own sanctuaries? Perhaps, its time, we get over this.

Excuse me....It's not that this thread was started to separate gujji's from the rest. It is just a way for a group of people who are from the same background to get together and communicate.
IS it not true that someone who may be from the same culture/background/religion, someone who speaks the same mother-tongue as yourself may have an advantage over anyone else who is not when it comes to understanding the trials and tribulations in your life? You already have a connection with that person as opposed to someone who is not....and sometimes in a place like Canada you need to feel like you are a part of a group, to feel like you at least belong to some group. Yes, it does not have to be gujji, but in this case it is. So just let it be and don't take it personally. You don't have to be a part of it if you don't want to be.
Maybe it's you who needs to get over it.

I do not intend to start an argument or reply to an argument here. Also I have not read the whole thread. I just happened to read this portion and thought of writing my views.
I am a gujrati but raised in a non gujarati environment and of course now here in canada......no ques of gujaratis. May be because I missed gujarati envmt, I am now more attracted twards guajratis. THis is to the extent that I wanted to marry a gujarati ONLY ....and then ...I heard similar comments like Bhishma's.
THis is to the extent that if I am waiting for an elevator and if a gujarati conversation is going on between some 2 people, I would just miss elevator and be there to hear sweet gujarati language. It just pulls me and even gujju land, when i am in ahemdabad, I feel the difference and feel as if "at home".
I miss small small things abt gujus. The calculations of gujjus, how to save money, where to save, where to spend, what to buy, what to eat, their whole thinking is different than others. I am just saying its dift, I am not saying it is better or it is not better.
Bottomline is that is undeniable that one gujarati gets a unique comfort zone with other gujarati.

your bottom line is applicable to, i am sure, to all the other communities. mayit be gujju or any other religion.

atleast this thread is sucessfull as far as i am concerned. finally me and amit could meet each other on saturday @ my place. i was nice meeting him and know a good freind. i am sure we will meet soon.
