While new immigrant professionals struggle to make a living (after paying one of the highest rate of taxes in the world) often getting employed in positions way below what they should have been due to hurdles like provinicial licencing etc., Canadian born young people involve themselves in senseless acts like street racing. Here is one more car crash (this time in Vancouver) from Street Racing:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/cpress/20060128/ca_pr_on_na/fatal_street_race;_ylt=Akq6I9AdL.bmj3DwPdCKzcBp9L4F;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

Thousands of dollars of tax payer's money will be spent on treating these irresponsible people.

Its not just 'Canadian born young people". Remember the case of those two indocanadians from vancouver that were street racing and killed a 52 year old pedestrian? Both were immigrants and have been ordered deported to India.

just FYI.

I didn't hear about that story but I am sure we got rid of them fairly easily by deporting back where they came from. But what about the one's born here? We have no way to getting rid of them. The only way is to have tough sentences which would deter the youth from doing such senseless acts

As an aside: do you think the appropriate punishment was deportation (back to India) ? What do you think is causing the rise in speed racing? Have any studies been done?

This (deporting immigrants involved in criminal activities) is a common procedure in many countries. In some countries, they strip them of their citizenship (for naturalized citizens) and deport them.

I feel the parents are indirectly responsible to some extent for children's behaviour. But also responsible are the types of video games available for kids. I am not aware of any studies done on this issue.

Ok. In what ways do you feel that parents are responsible?
I responded to this because you stated that canadian borns street race while Immigrants are trying to establish themselves. I just wanted to demonstrate that this is not always the case.

Have you ever heard of the "Darwin awards" ? Those are humorous awards given to those that have in stupid silly and senseless ways removed themselves from the gene pool (ie/ died ). I think street racers are part of this group !

Most new immigrants are hardworking. They have lot of other things to take care of than street racing. ( leave alone racing, many of them are not able to afford a car for several years after coming into Canada)

Parents are responsible because they don't make sure their kids (second generation) continue the same values (hardwork and diligence) they had when they came into the country. While the first generation earned their first car the hard way, many second generation never have to work for that....
