Sorry guys - my earlier post created problems due to the long username !

My apologies...

A great forum - A great source of Info....have always been on the guest listening, reading and keeping up with whats happening...

But need a little help....on making a MAJOR decision...

Had applied for Canadian PR took over 3 yrs to get the same...

In the mean time ran out of patience and applied for HSMP...

So now in my hands I have Canadian PR landing visa...and HSMP approval and Entry Clearance...

Which way do I go....can someone help me decide....which is a better option Canada or UK as both I will need to start my life afresh...

I am in the IT Field...middle/senior IT management level (appx 37yrs old) with over a decade of experience including Oracle databases and front ends....

Have a family of 3 myself, wife and a daughter 8 yrs...

based on Canadian/UK experience - help me decide please....

Thanks everyone...and cheers for such a great place to gather around....

Hi,
My wife is an Oracle professional. She always told me that job oppertunities in Uk are much much better than in Canada. Salary levels were way ahead when compared to canada. Besides UK also has public medical system and free education with lunch (upto +2).
SO in my humble opinion you might do well in UK.
But citizenship requirements, maternity benifits might be better in Canada. So this depends on your situation.
Please note that such important decisions to migrate should be based on the induvidual.
Thanks
Tk

Both are equally difficult in terms of getting jobs.

My cousin & her husband went to UK on HSMP with similar experience to what you have & similar age group.

They came back in 3-4 months since he did not get a single interview during that time. He was working in leading companies in India. Went back to India, took some time to get a decent job & is back to earning around Rs. 1 lac per month.

So take your own decision with the clear understanding that you might have to struggle in any country.

Thanks & rgds.

Exceptions aside, UK HSMP is tougher and promises better economy & jobs ......... And UK is a great place to be in provided u dont look @ Canada to give u a new identity .

Since u have both laddoos in ur hand ........... land in Canada .That gives u 3 years 2 return finally. In the mean time spend 1 yr on HSMP in the UK .............Analyse for your own self and decide ............ During ur initial landing spend close to 2-3 months in Canada if your UK HSMP permits that ........................... and then spend 1 yr in the UK...........if u get a job and settle down , stay there ........ esle u have ur Canadian option open.

Its going to be a life time decision so spend 1-2 years in experiencing & deciding .

Manasvi.

Mansavi,
I totally agree with you and the idea that you propose. you can taste both the ladoo's and enjoy both the ladoo's too....
BTW on a side note : when do you plan to land in Canada? Have you tried theco. that i told you to try for a job in Toronto (kumaran software HQ'ed in Chennai but has offices in Toronto?)
Thanks
TK

Wow - what a response...

Thanks Manasvi and TK - grand idea...

But an expensive one...if i try to keep both my options open and have both laddoo's so to say...

I would be required to move with my family to Canada temporarily which would incl tickets overall expense covering 150k to cover...thereafter making the trip to UK alone to try my luck for a year to see how it works.

keeping Manasvi's options - can someone tell me - even though I have the landing papers for myself and my family - if I make the trip ALONE into canada and allow the papers for my wife/daughter to expire - what would be the outcome?

If in the unforfunate event - I cannot make it in UK and later want to try my luck in Canada - I will have the PR but my wife/daughter would have none. So keeping this in mind - how would I go about it ? Can my wife/daughter later re-apply? in what way what is the process ?

Thanks everyone for the support and advise...really appreciate it.

cccbp,
lucky man, I also applied for canada in 2002 from delhi. Still waiting. But Meanwhile i get approval of hsmp 5 months back. So I came to uk in oct 2005. Job market for IT is hot in uk, I landed up in job within two weeks time. But in india i used to be software team leader. Here i have start again as software engineer.
But immigration is serious decsion. I will try for job in canada too when time comes. And will prefer canada as north amaerica is land of immigrants, while europe might not be. Also problem come how to bring parents in uk.
Heard getting job finding is very difficult in canada. Will see when time comes.
