Orginally posted by jake3dThe vatican city population is about 1000 and mostly the clergy. Its a small enclave landlocked by Rome. Saying that there are no muslims in vatican city is like saying there are no Chirstians in AL-Haram mosque.

I was merely going by the comparison of it being a country and saudi being a country

A rather weak argument dont you think? If you wanted to go settle there, i dont think they'll stop you. Its not against the law for a muslim to settle or take his holy book there.

You still want to continue comparing religious freedom in Saudi with that of the west...even if it is a small 0.44 square kilometre Vatican City that you can walk through in a day(with enough time for multiple coffee/lunch breaks...if you did not want to take in the antiquities)?

Don't take this as an attack but I don't think you can even begin to compare the freedoms enjoyed in the west with the rights given to people in the middle east...especially in Saudi.

Perhaps you are familiar with the car insurance clause in the UAE for personal injury....the amounts to be deposited as a guarantee during the process is determined by factors like your religion (ie Muslim or not), local + religion (ie UAE Muslim), sex etc. So the law very unabashedly declares that the life of an Arab Muslim is worth more than anyone else.

Our country, India, is far from perfect. Yet, as a minority here, I have never felt anything like this.

I believe that was directed towards me. No dont worry I am not going to take this as an attack. (If I would have jake would have been blown to pieces by a suicide bomber by now :) ).

What you are saying is similar to jaziya.........a tax imposed on non muslims by muslims. Having said that christians did the same thing during the roman empire...........the only difference bieng that just as christianity went through a rebellion/revoltion/renaissance, Islam still has to have one.......and if things keep going the way they do that day is close.

Btw I pay a certain portion of my taxes towards supporting catholic schools here, although I am never going to a catholic school here nor will my kids. What do you say about that.

Exactly, I hope you are right. Which side are you going to be on? Are you in the danger of becoming deviant and questioning dogmas ? ;)

Same as people without kids(never intending to have them ) still paying school tax ? What about parents of kids going to private schools still having to pay school tax?

I agree that religious schools should not be funded by tax payers. However, we are free debate the pros and cons, and strive towards influencing changes and mindsets, in a free society like in Canada. :D . We can, because these subjects can be questioned. If the Canadian govt were to take the stand that the BIBLE is the only infallible text of God and Christianity is the most SUPERIOR religion and disallow any questioning of the same(like the church did do before), that change will not come about.

Does any of this make sense to you Azazf?

Like I said earlier in one of my post there is no question about dogmas. So far I am still getting educated. There is a lot to learn and nothing so far has made me think about deviating. But then again time will tell......

Your question reminds me of the questions I used to get asked as a youngster in school about what side I was on during a pakistan and India match.

Hi!
Of course UAE has laws which give benefit to the Locals and also to the official religion people. Do you think that the west does not have those kind of similar laws :
Just for example in Canada :
1. Citizens are given preference over Govt. jobs than PR's
2. Mobility rights. You can visit many countries without a VISA incl. USA if you are a citizen.
