I was talking about dogmas and the very fact that I/we or rather my people view islam as a final revelation, a revelation so final that it didn't need any development or improvement. (so that logic or question of yours about improving or progressing and digressing and deviating and all that kind of gets killed right at its birthplace for me)

Actually almost all Christian evangalists i've spoken to say the same thing about the bible. LOL
. Allow me to inform you a little more...what do you think the debate between intelligent design and evolution is about?p.s: again my stand has nothing to do with the church. The church does not have a great track record of tolerating questions...e.g: the inquisition. I think many islamic countries are still in that phase that Christianity was in during those times.
Luckily western society saw a need to try to seperate religion from state. Not perfect yet...still a work in progress.
Hope you are convinced...if not, I give up.

The conundrum is why other religions do not demonstrate this virulent hatred towards the west.

Its one of those topics that we can keep singing till the cows come home........but i am not convinced.
Also we'll have plenty more threads like this to argue/debate/discuss these things. Coz for some people the only way to prove or feel that their religion is better by pointing out deficiences in other religions rather than talking about the good in their own religion.

There are only three known religions in the world technically,
Christianity,judaism and Islam and I can assure you all three pretty virulent towards each other. The methods used might be different but the end result envisioned by all three is the same.

Because the leaders and people in power need an explanation as to why their subjects are forever suppressed? The leaders will make sure that their interpretation of the religion will serve to keep the masses under them. It only helps their interests to emphasise on their subjects that they(the subjects) are perpetual victims of the outside force. So a few beheadings here and a few burnt embassies there and the emirs palaces are safe.
