Out of curiosity, was going thru the Canadian government's website, that gives information to Canadians travelling abroad.
See, what it has to say about India.

I agree with most of the stuff written there, although it applies more to people who are not of Indian origin.
It advises not to travel in the border region of Gujarat. So I cannot go to my hometown, Bhuj 
Most interesting part is
"There are reports of female Canadian citizens being forced into marriage without their prior knowledge or consent. Some are held against their will and subjected to threats, intimidation, and violence by family members. They have been unable to return to Canada, and their passports and money have been retained by family members. Forced marriages are contrary to Canadian law"

That could be because one might not know when he/she crosses the international border.
