Hi,
I am a canadian Citizen willing to find an opportunity in USA. I have an incorporated here in canada that I
use to bill my canadian employers. I am a computer systems analyst here in toronto.
Now my questions are as follows:
1) If I find the opportunity in USA, how do I get my client to Pay me. Should i use my canadian incorporated or
should I be on simply 1099. I plan to continously live in USA for 1 or 2 Years on the TN visa (I know i have to renew for second year).
The main reason to be independent is to claim all my expenses as much as i can i.e Rent, supplies, phone, car, ins, travel etc. Any other option I have to maximize benefits, I know on W2 the taxes are deducted at source.
2) Can I open the US bank account for my Canadian Incorporated.
3) Do employers in US even consider people with canadian incorporation for jobs.
Any inputs would be appreciated
Hi
I am in the same boat ....looking for same questions to be answered.
However, isn't it TD visa is related to employment in the company, so if we are employeed then how we can charge hourly to client.
I think if one have to work on incorporation then have to go for proper B1/B2 visa ... I may be incorrect.
However, I have excellent CA , who knows how to handle the tax between the two coutry. Although, when I have questions about immigration related TD or B1 he was not able to answer, he have metioned to me get the immigration lawyer and discuss your needs.
I will be in the process.. of getting this information with proper lawyer's and with NAFTA books.. so I will share the information once upon finding.
meantime, if someone have done it pls give us advice.
thanks in advance
Hi,
B1/B2 visa is termporary visitor's visa which is not needed for Canadian citizens. B1/B2 visa holders arenot eligible to work in USA.
You need to get H1B or TN visa or L1B visa to work in USA.
Hi Binal,
Rahee is correct, you would need TN1 or H1B visa to work in USA.
The other issue that came up today was, how to deposit US cheques in Canadian Incorporated bank accounts. My bank doesn't have operations in US, so I have to actually mail the cheque to canadian bank here..Now that is full of hassles. Do you know a canadian bank which has operations in US so that I could deposit US cheques in US without any hassles.
Wire transfer could have been an option but for that you have to have a business account in US in your corporation Name. Now I dont know if the canadian Business is allowed to open a US bank Account. What are the policies.. any body knows?
Now if the bank issues are resolved, corp to corp is the best option to go for. Other wise 1099 would be good.
Also you would have to apply for SSN for tax purposes on corp to corp.
Do every body have to get SSN to work in US even canadians?
