controversial Anti-Terrorism Act, also known as Bill C-51.

What is Bill C-51?

According to the Government of Canada, Bill C-51, also known as the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, was designed to, “encourage and facilitate information sharing between Government of Canada institutions in order to protect Canada against activities that undermine the security of Canada.”

The Conservative Party introduced the idea of increasing security provisions after the Parliament Hill shooting in October, but didn’t formally introduce the act until January.

Simply put, the Stephen Harper government wants to allocate more power to police services and security institutions like the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) to keep a closer eye on potentially dangerous terrorism situations and prevent future attacks.

now, two groups are planning to challenge Bill C-1 in court.... I heard in news that some people are thinking that this Bill C-51 violate the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

IMO, some extend it is good for all us if we have a some good and strict rules in Canada for safety and security for everyone's.

always one bad apple spoil other apple...

Do you support Bill C-51? if yes/no why?

No. They seem to be inspired from Damini's Sunny Deol, and aren't interested in the court, sunwai, tareekh, etc. Easier for Govt. to deport Citizens that are even born here, and that are remotely found to be eligible for Dual Nationality of another country. I think it also covers PIO, OCI. Without any Court appeals, I think any good law is doomed and bound to be abused.

Conservatives are anyway brothers in arms with Republicans and follow them closely. So, not quite surprised with their antics. Hopefully, it would be their last term.

IMO, most law that politicians frame are duds and counter productive. Most of them are emotionally and politically motivated catering to one particular class of voters.

The bill C-51 and Harper's policy to treat security and terrorism leave to lot to desire, mostly imaginary actions which have no real ground effect.

That said, the school boy is no better either. He does not even know where he stands, forget about leading the country.

It is indeed going to be another choice between a rock and a hard place.

BTW: FP - did you vote yes or no on the poll?

No. While a strong Terrorism bill/law is indeed required, and I am in between the Yes and No, I would vote No as it leaves an abundance of power on the authorities without the viable Court appeals. It's a gray area.

+1 for that. I don't strongly believe these laws should not be drawn by politicians. Most of the times, they use the (valid) reason as an excuse to push forward some other political agenda.

I am sure if the bill C-51 was drawn by some senior legal counsels with no political affiliations, the text would have been totally different. I would also never agree to any law which does not have provision for appeal/challenges to hear the defense.

This Bill has already been in force since May 2015. Two terrorists holding Canadian passport are having their citizenship revoked and deported to the country of their origin. A massive

more details:
http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/government-seeks-to-revoke-canadian-citizenship-of-convicted-terrorist-misbahuddin-ahmed

"Misbah knows about this and instructed me to do whatever is possible to prevent the revocation of his citizenship,’ said lawyer Ertel" :D

This will serve as a strong deterrent for all those scum who have moved to Canada hoping for a safe haven. They will think twice before doing any hanky-panky business.

India needs to bring this kind of law in the society.

Toronto 18 terrorist will regain Canadian citizenship under new legislation introduced by Liberals:

Welcome to Canada and do more terrorist activities in country....Thanks to our current government.....:cuss:

It is not far that we have same situations like right now have in Europe countries.

Spanish police seize so many illegal weapons in £9m terrorist arms ring amidst fears of summer holiday terror attack:

According to the published police statement, the cache included 9,000 CETME fully automatic rifles, anti-aircraft guns, 400 shells and grenades, pistols, and revolvers.

Photos published by the police show piles of assault rifles, guns and weapons parts lying in stacks and leaning against the walls of a warehouse.

IMO, time to seriously to consider that current Canadian Government should not be in power in next term for sure...
