You need to have more commitment than that! Are you the sole carer for your child? No. You have a husband too, and also a MIL who can babysit for an hour 2 or 3 times a week if need be...and why shouldn't they?

No one is going to say to you, here, let me do everything around the house, take care of the kid, make dinner so you can put your feet up and relax...you need to do that for yourself or you only have yourself to blame.

Going to the gym doesn't have to mean stressful workouts, most gyms have saunas and steam rooms and hot tubs...take advantage of it! If you still don't like the idea...there are plenty of other things for you to do to unwind and not think about your MIL for a while. Get your nails done once a week or something...no point sitting around feeling sorry for yourself.

Ok - Im editing this post because I just read PP's response.

Canyou take your baby out with you and have a mother-daughter shopping day .. or take her to the park and just relax and play with her?

Are you employed? Who takes care of the child during the day?

I think as PP mentioned - communication is the key.
Does your husband help out around the home? Can he watch the baby while you go out (whether to work out or just relax)?

Can your MIL do the cooking - just to give you respite from some responsibilities. I would recommend sitting down and talking with the family about your feelings and perhaps dividing up the work.

How about doing something fun at work.
I usually go out shopping or movies once in while with girls at work

My advice to those DILs whose MILs are coming for a short visit.

Find out in your office if you can work overtime. If you can, offer to work overtime. If not look for another part-time job. Go home just to eat food already cooked by MIL. Bear the mess till they are here. Once they return back to India, hire a Molly Maid and get the kitchen throughly cleaned.
