This is my first posting so please be patient if this has been covered before. I am awaiting my permanent residence visa and expect to come to Vancouver soon.

I notice some people cross from Windsor to Detroit for work and was wondering whether similar travel occurs from Vancouver? I would guess Seattle is too far to commute but perhaps somewhere closer. I will be looking for work in a community college as a IT teacher or similar.

Bellingham Washington (about 10 minutes south of the border) has

1) Western Washington University (Whatcom County)
2) Whatcom Community College

Seattle is 2 hours (in normal traffic). It would be a difficult commute from Surrey (which is the closest city to the border).

How has ur job search in BC been?

Thank you very much for your reply. I will have many questions for the group as I face the reality of having to move to another country.

As regards working in Bellingham, how long is the commute from Surrey? From Vancouver, Burnaby? Can a Canadian PR find work in US as a Canadian resident, ie commuting daily? I gather from other posts that as long as you spend a part of day in Canada it is counted towards residency.

No, You will have to be eligible for H1-B , TN visa to work, You can see these details on visas on any US immigration website or just google it

Yes as a Canadian PR, the only options you will have are H-1B or L-1.
Once you are a Canadian citizen, the TN would become an option.
