This is a good decision by the Govt. And least expected by this Govt. as most of their base is in Alberta and most of the Cos. Not happy by this belong there. However, I wholly support this move. Or otherwise, we will see our personal taxes going up in near future to cover the cost of war on terrorism. Someone has to pay, why not those profit making oil companies from Alberta?Now how they will protect the companies from hostile takeovers by American firms? That is all together different question.

It is really simple logic :
For those who have invested heavily in income trusts, this move invokes loss of revenue and hence people speak up against it.
For those who have not invested in any income trusts, this move invokes profit in terms of lower tax burden (atleast in the near future) and hence people support the move.
It is a 50-50 situation.
